POLL: Ions or Plasma ?

you know you can make your very own floating plasma balls with nothing more than a microwave and a candle?

Put a lit candle in your microwave and switch it on . . . you should see floating balls of plasma that last for .5 secs (about) each . . and split in half and join with others and the whole nine yards. Please be patient while I dig up that link.

Ah yesss, I knew there was something about 'do not try this at home' . . . but when has that ever stopped you before?

If you do this, I want pics.

edit: it looks as if you get pretty colors too! you must do it and provide pictures/detailed personal injury stories.

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for melting eyes, sentient tumours, rare forms of cancer, space aliens emerging from your microwave, etc. etc. Try at your OWN risk.

plasma is made of ions but the ion cannon is badass (as seen in stargate sg-1, tiberian sun, starcraft, earth 2150 etc)

Too bad the exhaust fan sucked it out.

yah but its still pretty damn cool. I've been trying to convince myself that I will not in fact develope sentient brain cancer if i try it, but it isn't even my house and I would feel bad about destroying it. Especially with those bold text warnings.

man.. i am SOO tempted to try this.. i dont want to mess up the microwave though.

you can get the same plasma effect simply by placing a metal object in the microwave on a ceramic surface. also, its less messy.

If you don't want to mess up the microwave but still want plasma, stick a lightbulb in there. You have to push it REALLY hard to melt the glass, and you'll see it bulging before it blows up, it's not that dangerous.

Don't ions make up plasma? So if you vote for plasma, you'll get ions too. But if you vote for ions, you won't necessarily get plasma. You might just end up with salt. Hmm.
