I'm running a AK33 mobo. Via chipset KT133 chipset as everyone knows.

When I install Windows2000 on my computer a stange things happend. No matter what I do Windows2000 assigns all my peferitials cards, like onboard sound, SCSI-card (Tekram DC390F)and VideoCard(ASUS 7110), to use very same IRQ.

I believe that couses an conflict between onboard sound and my Video card. My sound scratches when I bouth listen to sound and running som small video appl. like a winamp visualsion.

I'm using the newest drivers from viahardware.com but it doesn't solve the problem.

Can someone help me with the problem and I connot be alone with this. Can one get in contact with Aopen and discus this with them.

Windows 2000 has been installed in ACPI mode and that is how it assigns its plug and play resources. Most people have no problems, other people do have problems. Usually it's all assigned to IRQ9...supposedly it's used as a gateway to virtual IRQs above 15.

Anyway, here is the article from Microsoft dealing with it.

If you want to manually assign IRQs, or just let Windows do it properly, you have to change the ACPI mode HAL to Standard PC HAL.

To do this, go into Device Manager, and look under Computer. It should say Advanced Configuration Power Interface PC. Change this to Standard PC by changing the driver. Then reboot. Hopefully it should come out OK.

If you need to reinstall, hit F5 while it is detecting all the devices right at the very beginning to manually select the Standard PC HAL. You may also need to turn ACPI off in the BIOS if you have that option.

I just checked and i have these components sharing irq 7:

ACPI complient system
Graphics card
Video capture device
NIC
Sblive
Raid controller

I haven't noticed any problems, but should this decrease performance considerably?

I had:-
Nvidia riva tnt2 ultra
Via ac'97 audio controller
Via USB universal host controller (x2)
all sharing IRQ11

Tried the Standard PC thing, but it messed up 2k big style so had to reinstall.
Couldn't even revert back to ACPI.

I am living with the shared resources!

Yep I had that same problem, I had:

Elsa Gladiac GTS 32DDR
Netgear 10/100 PCI NIC
Onboard ATA100 RAID controller
Creative Labs Live! PCI
(2) USB controllers

All of those were listed on IRQ 11. I was having flashing problems with my GF2, so I switched it to Standard PC. It fixed all my problems, but now my computer won't turn its self off. It only gives me the "It is now safe to turn off you PC" screen. I know it has to do with disabling the ACPI power management, but it still kinda sucks.
