POLL: Interesting question, if you could choose to live in a "racially" segregated society, would you?

If you could choose to live in a society where you could choose to live/work/play only amongst people of your own "race", would you do it?

I bet you also know more whites than any other race 🙂

I said no, but quite honestly I wouldn't give much of a damn either way. Nova scotia, canada, is basically all white except for a few native indians on the reserves, and then the black population there is very small as well. You've got few hispanics from what I remember and you have some asians and indians I guess but for the most part it's all white. Alabama is about 1/3 black I think, and the rest is mostly white, with some hispanics probably in third place for numbers.

Well, I believe in cultural pluralism (integration) and am against cultural assimilation. I think the best situation would be when people choose to celebrate their culture while society sees and treats all the members as equals.

Post-slavery problems in American right now lay in racial prejudices in the judicial system and in the work force.

Hell no. As a matter of fact, I live in one of the most diverse areas of Georgia and wouldn't have it any other way.

If I wanted to be surrounded by white people, I'd move to Indianapolis with my parents. 😛

That's ridiculous. Integration over time creates assimilation. Unless your notion of integration means "in physical proximity to, but with no interaction with".

Not necessarily race, but maybe social class. More often than not, criminals (murderers, rapists, thieves, etc) come from the lower rung of society.

no. i wouldn't be able to live with my wife otherwise.

Haha... same here... but then I grew up in a very multicultural/multiracial society.... where all of the major ethnic groups and religious were represented... I'm not saying it was perfect, there were frictions from time to time especially nearing election time cause politicians just love to play the race/religion/communal cards....

I essentially did in the subdivision where my house was. Lots of upper-middle-class snobs with at least one SAV in every driveway. I was one of only 2 homes in the 80 home development that had no truck/SAV. And if you weren't in with one of the little cliques, well, you might as well have lived on the moon as far as neighborly socialization goes.

good god if i have to stay with other chinese/asian people for the rest of my life.. i'd go INSANE! and kill myself.

I meant integration of blacks into the better-to-be-white culture. Assimilation is when you give up, sacrifice, lose, your culture to be accepted by another culture (Uncle Toms, wiggers, etc). And I am totally against that. It would be great to have everyone at the highest level of cultural indentification so there isn't any racism and everyone is celebrating their fine culture.

Sorry, but that's not the way society works. Culture isn't static, and the sort of purity you're espousing only exists in a vacuum. People interacting with each other changes cultures, and if you don't like that, there may still be some isolated pockets in the Amazon where you can let the world pass you by without feeling gravity's pull.

I'm not sure why you seem to think that cultural acceptance has any direct link with racism. Culture speaks to ideals and practices, and those aren't the province of genetics.

Feathers, you stating facts that I don't argue with (culture isn't static, it changes, etc etc) but arguing facts is.. pointless. This thread is about choosing to live in a "racially" segregated society. I vote no, and explained why. I'm not espousing to any type of "purity", it is widely accepted that high levels of cultural identification among individuals is dependent on celebrating your OWN culture and be completely accepting of OTHER cultures. That is all I'm trying to say, I don't want to argue facts about how culture is a dynamic thing with you.
