There's a penalty you gotta pay if you owe too much. Does anyone know how that works? Like at what dollar amount do you get penalized. I just changed my W4 to be married and 9 allowances. I figured this would put me exactly even on what I need to pay. I was at married with 2 allowances and that had me paying 300/month too much last year. I don't mind them keeping it for awhile as these hotdeals would bankrupt me if I had this money.

Yep. If you owe money, you had an interest free loan from the government for the whole year. If the government owes you, the government had an interest free loan from you for a whole year (actually 6 months on average). Sucker. ;)
<-- Owes 2K. :D

Well it's nice that you have that $2000 on hand now....but as for me,

- I wouldn't have saved and/or invested that money, and wouldn't have it now :(
- Since this is my first year of home ownership, I had no idea how much I could write off ;)

Too bad I am in Northern CA, with these insane housing prices. If I could get a house for about 250K or so, I would buy one in a second.

Yeah, CA sucks. I hope there is a huge earthquake, and people get scared and start to leave, and I can pick up their house cheap ;)

"Screw you, I owe!!"

I have owed for the past 6 years now. I pay my taxes (and then some!) but hey; why give Uncle Sammy an interest-free loan? Take that money and invest it yourself, or pay bills with it, or heck, buy PC hardware with it.

Why does the Executive avatar not looks like an executive? Looks more like my plumber. Which executive is it based on again?

Does that include the penalties for under-witholding too?
No penalty. Most of it was unemployment. Withholding taxes is optional and not the route most people take when they need to eat.
