after taking a look at my high school years, and my college years thus far, i'm starting to consider staying in a dorm for a semester

i want to experience that college life in a collegetown atmosphere, and was even considering transferring to UMCP to do this because UMBC is almost like a Community College. Sure it has nice facilities, but lacks that student life!

UMCP is the school i always wanted to go to, but couldn't before because i had a job at UMBC. I stopped my job last january to concentrate on school.

tell me what you think i should do

btw, i will pay for the additional costs via student loans.

edit: I have 80 some credits, but have only completed about 3 Comp Sci classes. I am taking 3 more this semester. I also was considering the BS/MS Program @ UMBC, and hoped they had something similar at UMCP

I was sorta in your situation. I had the opportunity to live with my over protective parents and go to the local state college completly free due to scholarships and what not and hang out with the same people and live in the same damn town. Or I could have gone to a town a few hundreds miles away gain my indepence, experience life on my own but on the other hand get railed due out of state fees. I chose the latter.

And.......I never regret my decision as I am very thankful over the decision I made. Regardless of all the stuff you may or may not learn, living on your own during your college years is an experience I am grateful for. It's hard to put into words (probably because i am drunk and tired) but its just something I on a personal level feel everyone should experience and something I will try to encouage my kids when the time comes. Most of my friends stayed at the local college and well, they don't seem that happy. There rather tired of the same scene and it seems they are just down in general. However the feel friends I know that moved out, they just seem to be more mature and have a greater apperciation of things and genrerally more happy.

Again I would like to stress I normally can make a lot better arugment but udner current circumstantces i am too tired. But I voted you go. You only live once and hopefully you only go through college once, and there are few opprotunies when you can just pack up and move and experience life and your self.

I had the opportunity to go to school relatively close to home at a local college and get a free ride, but I instead made what I thought was the obvious choice and went to my top pick. Albeit 5 hours away, it had one of the best programs in my field.

I know a fellow hs graduate took the other route, wanted to have fun and whatnot and went to the local school for computer science, I wouldn't say he's unhappy but I would say he is not living up to his potential.
