Anyway to tell where one is in relation to me?Originally posted by: pulse8
Netflix only works well if you live near a distribution center.
Do the trial month first. Get as many movies as you can in the trial month. We went with the 2 DVD plan, and we'd only get about 4 a month, tops. Netflix was only shipping from california at the time, so it'd take about a week to process and ship our orders, we'd get DVDs by friday if we ordered them the previous saturday. Then it'd take a week for netflix to get them back, and another week to get new ones out to us.Originally posted by: Skoorb
Decent responses so far - I'll give it a go - what of the 2 movies deal instead of 3 at a lesser price. Is that available?
unless you like a lot of foreign and obscure movies, which Blockbuster has only a small part of. I had a Netflix account for a couple of years before we got the Tacoma, WA center (woohoo!) and it was worth it just for all the Hong Kong, Samurai and Anime films they carried. Even with 1-week turnaround you can still easily get 7 movies a month for your $20, less than the cost of buying one Criterion, anime or Tai Seng HK disc. It's a waste of money if you don't live near a distribution center

Another thing - I heard there is a 2 movies for $12/month instead of 3 for $20, but this isn't advertised on the front page. Can I choose this anywhere...?

if your going to watch on your pc you have the option of ripping the entire movie to your hd to speed up return times. space is cheap now. if your busy, rip and send it back. i'm not talking about encoding, but full rip. windvd4 plays back those 5-8GB with full features/menus extra features.

Netflix is excellent. My only complaint about it is my mystifying ability to hold onto a DVD for three days after I've already watched it, delaying the arrival of my next movie.
