I have a chance to take the 11:30 - 8PM shift at the support center. Among the benefits will be waking up later, and saving travel time by avoiding rush-hours. I have an 80 mile round-trip to work each day.

Assuming you have no kids (and if I didn't have kids), I'd do 11:30 - 8pm in a heartbeat!

Could sleep in late most days or get up early and get errands done w/o having to take off of work or take long lunches.

right now I do 11:30-8 but my only other option is 7-3:30. If I could do 8:30-5 I would take that

if i had no kids , i would do the swing shift (11:30 am to 8 pm) , but with kids, i wouldn't get to see them much, so i have to pick the normal day shift on that one

My girlfriend is upset about it.. says that she won't get to see me on weekdays. Oh well, too late I already told my manager.

What does she do? You'll be staying up later so she can come visit then, in lue of her schedule of course.

Because of your traffic/commute situation, i'd say 11:30-8:00.

Personally, I prefer the 8:30 to 5 shift.

11:30 to 8 would be horrible. You'll end up sleeping in so its not like you'll get any extra free time in the morning. You'll end up getting home from work at about 8:30 depending on your commute, which means there won't be a whole lot to do in the evenings. Pretty soon you'll feel like all you do is work. While getting up early for work kind of sucks, at least you are forced to get up and you get home at a reasonable hour and have the rest of the evening to do what you want.

She's a child Psychotherapist, and she goes to work from 8 to 4 with a 1 hour round-trip commute. She gets home at 5 while I get home around 6.

I can always trade shifts with the other guy, and I will work 8:30 - 5 every Wednesday.

Sounds to me like you'll get home around 9 PM if you take the later shift. That is too late to go out to dinner at many nicer restaurants, too late to go shopping during the week, too late to get to most forms of entertainment, too late to watch many sporting events on TV, etc. You'll end up missing quite a lot of life during the week.

Sure I'd like to sleep in, and sure the lesser traffic is a bonus - but I think the things you'll miss out on are far worse.

Where's the 11:30 - 5 option?
I pick that one.

Actually, I tend to stay up late and I hate mornings, so I would be tempted to take the 11:30 - 8. But I agree that it would suck to not get home until 9:00 every night.

8:30 - 5. The later shift destroys most of your day. Although I guess you could stay out all night. Eh, I'd still take the earlier shift.

830-5 cuz the majority of people work those hours. Once 5pm comes and everyone else is heading home and you gotta stay 3 more hours...itll hit ya.

i think I rather be really awake and in the mood at 11.30am,
to start work,
then to be sleepy at 8.30am ( I don't sleep early anywayz). I'll be all exhausted by the time 3pm comes (after lunch)
and need to drag another 2 hours in the office

and I don't mind being off late like 8.30,.. won't be too late for dinner yet. ;)

8:30-5.

Done at 5 and half the day is still ahead of you.

Done at 8, you come home...home by 8:30 if lucky, cook some supper...then its night time. What are you gonna do, watch some TV then go to sleep? not much else.

Plus you will sleep in til 10:30ish and that part of your day is gone...cause if you don't sleep in, you have a long day ahead.
