Would you rather kill the person who killed your SO, or let the justice system handle it knowing they will likely one day be free again?

One one hand you get "revenge", or the other hand, the person must live the rest of their life knowing they killed someone (hoping that they are human enough to feel guilt).

What's the better choice?

If you care about your children, you would not be dead inside; you'd still have that parental drive. Just, part of it would be missing.

right, i typed that all out of order. Let me clarify:

If there were NO kids involved, SO was best thing that ever happened to you, easy to decide, kill or do a murder-suicide

If there WERE kids involved, try to make the murderer's death look like an accident, or get a "friend" to take him out while you have a solid alibi. If unable to do that, then let the courts handle it as a last resort i suppose

As much as I'd delight in killing the person responsible I really would need to think of my son.

I vote for justice system...unless you, my peers, would let me off? :D

I'd kill them if the situation presented itself.
If not, I'd see to it that they got a light sentence, wait til they got out, give it a bit of time, then arrange a horrific accident involving high velocity lead.

I don't see what killing them would accomplish. I would still have the same grief about losing my loved one any way and more violence would just add to it.

If I can do it and NOT get caught, then I would absolutely. But I am not sure about taking the chance of getting caught and having VeggieFrog with her mum on trial and/or in jail for murder.

Yup. When I was younger I'd have went off the deep end. Now I'd be okay. Things would iron out.
I'd never be able to live with myself if the mumfvcker didn't get dead. It'd be twice as bad if our glorious legal system let the killer out in 10 years only to see him/her create another batch of motherless children.
I'd consider it more of an unpleasant duty than revenge.
