I'm looking for something similar to this, i have all the components already (TV, VCR, DVD player, Receiver, CD-i player, speakers), but can't quite find a piece like this.

-=bmacd=-

edit: i'm also looking for suggestions on how to build one/how to improve upon it/where to buy a good one inexpensively
edit 2: this is for my bedroom and the receiver and DVD player should be on top b/c my bed would otherwise be in the way of infrared transmission (blocking the line of sight of the remote control's path).

Maybe a stupid question, but are speakers like that usually magnetically shielded?

From my knowledge they arent.

How good of woodworking skills do you have? Cabinet grade plywood would work great if you know a little about what you are doing.

Some are. My father has some Polk Audio floor speakers that are.

your speakers should form a 45 degree angle with you and the tv, like a triangle...you need more space between the fronts.

BMAC,

Whith those speakers so close together, I'm not sure that you'd get very good stereo separation, especially for movie watching, if you do any of that. You may wish to space out the front speakers to get a wider soundstage.
