I'm an EE major and I can't decide what I should specialize in because I find too many things interesting, I also have a Software Eng. Major on the side. I'm leaning towards photonics/telecom but I leave my fate in the hands of ATOT :p.

Vote for Power if you just want to see the results because I'm not specializing in that.

I worked in Control and Automation for about a year or so and was already making 80k or so plus 4 weeks paid vacation and stock options...some of my business friends with more experience make $100-200 per hour (200k to 400k per year)in Control and Automation doing contract work for manufacturing facilities, power plants, etc. and they turn work down all the time.

I think it is really fun work...no two projects are alike and there is always new technology to learn and apply. Plus, you can get work in almost any area of the US or overseas.

What's your day to day schedule like? What software do you use? What kind of companies hire people in for control and automation? (I'd imagine there are many of them).

It doesn't matter. If I were trying to get rich I wouldn't be studying engineering. All of them pay enough to make a good living :).

Analog engineer. Highly sought in the industry.
I don't think I could handle a career in analog electronics. I think I'd go nuts within 5 years.

edit: fixed the quoting mishap. Sorry PhasmatisNox and kermalou for mixing up your quotes, my apologies.

Oops my bad, I quoted you and was copy-pasting other quotes/names in to reply to the various inquiries. I just put Kermalou's name next to the wrong quote. I'll fix that for you :).
