If we dont have money we just quit spending.

The only way to have a full reserve spending, would be to use gold and silver coins. However, I would hate to drag around a chest of gold. There is not enough gold on the earth.

Also, we need to form a shared central bank with Canada. Our countries have grown so close that we should have the same currency. Not to mention, we share a massive (basically open) border with them. Since they are so interconnected with us, if something terrible happens to either of us, it will impact both of us regardless of a common central bank.

I'm not seeing any detriment to forming a common central bank between the Bank of Canada and the Fed --- other than consolidating any discrepancies from a legal framework.

One thing is for sure -- bank holding companies in the US should no longer be allowed to function as investment banks (No way will Canada go along with that) and US banks would probably wail about the strict leverage ratios in Canada that we should be forced to adopt.
