lets see... they got detachable faces, motorized retractable faces, password cards, HU's with their own alarm systems, etc.

how effective are those measures of security? which one is the most effective?

do thieves really pass up on car stereos with its face detached? even though they know it's a $500+ car stereo with its face detached?

They are a little safer nowadays because most pawnshops don't buy used stereo stuff due to much stolen stuff.

I've got a friend who had his face off his stereo.. and the face hidden deep, and mean DEEP under the seat. As in under a few layers of heavy plastic/metal.. and guess what? Someone still got in and got it all..

99% of people with detachable faces take them off and put them in

a) glove box
b) trunk
c) under seat

and unfortunately, thieves know this!

so my answer is: NOTHING is effective! it's sad, but true.

My headunit won't work after the power is disconnected unless someone puts in the CD key, which is a CD I own that I set when I first purchased it. Thus, the stereo is worthless if stolen...real car thieves know this and won't take it.

Well I do'nt have to worry about it since my car did'nt come with a stereo but the most important thing about stereo safety is not parking your car in a drug infested neighborhood.

A friend of mine mounted his stereo in his glove box, and left his stock radio in place. Not a bad idea considering the area where he works.

found that even with the best measures, some jerk will come along & break in just to have a proper look! :disgust:

insurance and alarms are the best bet..

this dude i used to know in the ghetto, he said "an alarm, thats just more of a challenge for us to steal your s**t, we'll steal it too.."

Get a viper alarm, $5000 coverage against damage and theft loss with $0 deductible. Best money spent ever.

Then of course get full coverage in case they steal the whole damn car..
