How long does it take? And do you do any other tweaks from time to time? And does re-installing windows optimize performance?

usually at least once a week, more often if I'm installing programs.
I use norton speed disk & it usually takes less than 5 minutes! :)

Once every 2-6 months. Takes about 7 and a half hours.

Reinstalling windows does enhance performance a bit since you get rid of excess flak software, DLLs, and registry entries.

I'm usually slacking and get around too it about once a month.

Question: Is a speed disk(what I use)defrag different than windows defrag?

I figured speed disk would be better, any thoughts

I usually defrag every week. I also use Norton Speed Disk and it usually only takes a couple of minutes.

I don't know about optimize but reinstalling gets rid of all the crud left behind from installing and uninstalling all kinds of programs and drivers. I usually reinstall every three months or so cause I'm constantly trying out every little program I can download. Most of them get uninstalled. I reinstall windows on my Dad's computer maybe once a year but all he ever does is play solitaire.

Once every week during the night while I'm asleep, using Norton Speed Disk.

almost dayly. i have norton systemworks 2001, but i like diskeeper6 much more than speedisk. just a few minuts and its done! th only advantage of speedisk is that it relocates the swapfile.
i also reinstall cllean windows every 3-6 months (win9x, no prob)

every 2 ot 3 weeks using norton speed disk, only takes about 5 mins.
There is no need to defrag every day, that just adds to the wear and tear on your drive.

About 2x's a month. I like to pretend my computers playing tetris with itself. I use nortons speed disk, sometimes I defrag using window 98 utility in safe mode. Usually take about 20 minutes (15gig hd)

I usually did about once every months or so(If I remember), or when I install/uninstall more then a few software. I use Norton Speeddisk for defrag. much better then the standard defrag provide by M$. It has so many features I use..

wolf550e: I wish I could reinstall mine that often.. but I have way too much software/hardware at stake.. too much work... but a clean install will get rid all the excessive junk in the system..
