With the X2 raking in $85.5 million in its first weekend, how much do ya'll think Reloaded will make?

My prediction is in the $120-135 range for the 4-day tally (since it opens March 15, a Thursday).

BTW, I'm not taking any bets.

Note: The Spiderman 3-day weekend record is $114.5 million.

100-125

It's damn hard to hit 100's no matter how great you are. Look at The Phantom Menace. That only had 15 years of anticipation for that.

No matter the release date, the weekend box office numbers are Fri-Sat-Sun, releasing a movie on Wed or Thurs does not add anything to the weekend numbers.

Oh, and I think it might push $75 mil, but not by much ... it is rated R after all.

yep, your right. forgot. but we'll still be able to tell by accounting for the totals when released at the end of the week.

i'm pretty sure with spiderman they kept talking about the 5 day take, not 3 days.

well if they are counting only fri-sat-sun, then i say that it won't break 80, seeing that alot will be "lost" due to the number of individuals watching the movie on wed or thurs.

Ya know what would be funny? If we all decided not to go the first couple of weeks just to throw them off. They'd be like....this movie is a major flop... Then we'd flood the theaters on a Monday night in week three of its release and the box office would be totally baffled.

The ATOT effect is significant... but not *that* significant.

I'd say around ~100 million for 4 days.

It's rated R and that cuts off a lot of money it could earn.

The repeat business is going to be incredible. I wouldn't surprised if it made another 50 or 60 million next weekend.

A lot.

Check moviefone showtimes this weekend for most major theaters. Almost all showings for thurs/fri are sold out already.

Did a little research, the $114 million opening was for a 3 day take.

Given all the hype I'd guess it'll be somewhere in the $125 million ballpark.

Talking about dollar figures has a lot more zing to it and creates a self-feeding frenzy because the numbers sound amazing a create a buzz unto themselves until you take into account ticket prices these days. I just wish at some point they'd start using 'tickets sold' as the standard metric since it's at least a somewhat more consistent measurement (even when taking into account the variation in the number of screens and regional openings; even then it's still more consistent than ticket prices which are constantly moving and have too many other variables.) But $115 million just sounds so much cooler to the media and average joe than saying only 16 million actually saw it. But enough of that rant. I don't want to get into that again. ;)

I've been kind of wondering about this. "The Matrix" came out in 1999, and was rated PG-13...4 years later, "Reloaded" opens...so, if you were old enough to see the first one, you are now old enough to see the second one...right? So, at least as many people are capable of seeing "Reloaded" as were capable of seeing "The Matrix"...

Edit for lack of completeness: Bearing in mind that both of them are rated R, "Reloaded" should do at least as well as "The Matrix"...
