[POLL] How much is your monthly car gas costs ?

rh71

No Lifer
We use a gas card so it's all on 1 bill for us every month... we shot up to $140 this month when we avg'd $90 before. And this is with no commuting for work... she takes the train and I am home. This $140 sound ridiculous to anyone else ??? 😉

On the same token... I filled up at a Mobil station yesterday. On each pump, they posted an article... which indicated Exxon-Mobil's profits are directly linked to the increased cost at the pump. WTF ??? Why would they post something like that at their own pumps ? The important parts were highlighted too... did the owner have a beef with the company or something ???

$41-$60

We take public transportation to work. Everything we need is close to home.

Our 2 year old Accord just hit 12,000 miles 🙂

I fill up probably once every 10 days ... costs me $25 each time... sometimes I get an extra fill when I take a trip or something, so I'll say about $100 a month.

Probably so. The franchise owner was probably upset because he's only getting .05 a gallon as profit on a sale. The .05 that he's getting is probably the same now when gas is $1.95 a gallon vs. when gas was $1.25 a gallon. The owner feels that his profit amount should have increased along with the gas price increase. However, Exxon-Mobil kept that amount for themselves.

2- car/truck @ about $23x2 a fill up a week. Bout $190.mth here in Oregon as prices are about $1.90 ave regular unleded.

Someone else might have put it up too.

Probably around $30/month. I never really figured it out, but I don't use much. It's about 5 miles to work, then back. Every now and then I go somewhere else, but not much.

how the hell do pay that much with no commute

gas prices here are 1.80- 1.90

if you drive a car that gets less than 20mpg, or drive a huge amount each week, or drive a car that requires premium gasoline you really don't have any right to complain because even a small fluctuation in gas prices will make a huge difference for the first 2 cases

if you are paying 2.60-4.00 for regular you do have a legitimate complaint

I use about 1000 gallons/year. I went from $150/mo gas bills to about $250/mo. Gas prices here are $2-2.30 depending on what station you go to and in what neighborhood. It's not uncommon to see $2.50+ for premium. (now only 91 octane)

i have a bad exhaust gasket in my explorer and I'm spending about $80/week on gas alone. I'm getting close to 7mpg. Stupidly, it should only cost $300 to repair the gasket and welds.

An exhaust leak shouldn't effect MPG.

We live rural so everything is far away compared to a city/suburb dweller. Roads are not the best and wintertime 4x4 is a must:

Ford Explorer ~ 25,000 miles/year @ 18mpg ~ 1400 gal
Jeep Grand Cherokee ~ 20,000 miles/year @ 17mpg ~ 1200 gal

~2600 gal/year @ $1.90 ~ $4940/year or ~ $411/month.

Fill each car about twice monthly so about $100. This month, though, the beneficent state of Florida has rolled back the tax on gasoline $0.08 per gallon. That means I will save about... times 4, carry the 2...a grand total of $4.50 in gasoline for two cars for the entire month of August. I can't even begin to plan how I will spend this magnificent sum! 🙂

too much air is coming in, so the o2 sensor compensates and adds more fuel.

Yes... a new $50 O2 sensor fixed our gas efficiency woes in our '90 Accord. The drop was extremely noticeable. Invariably it also fixed the primary problem of choking / not shifting or accelerating past 1st gear. Too bad we had spent $300 in "other" solutions prior to that. Small steps first...

fill it up once a week, around 18 dollars for a tank, so about 72 dollars per month. And that's with 41 mpg!
