you mean "all out, thousands of dead" war?
or
"boarder dispute continues, a few killed now and then" war?

there are already thousands of dead, the pakistani's decided to burn a train full of innocent women and children and then send a suicide bomber to the capitol building. (these are only two recent incidents)

I'm almost positive there will be a war.

ok, maybe a better way to put it

"declared" war
or
"continued undeclared" war

or something like that

my point was that the term "War" is used to mean a lot of different things these days

Twelve million is the estimate I heard on Fox News and ABC News today.

Consider the millions more that would get Cancer and die evetually and consider that the radiation fallout will spread around the world. All over some Godforsaken piece of mountain rock.

The fanatics on both sides have NO IDEA what these weapons are capable of. I think the Japanese need to get involved and spell it out for them.

This would be a worldwide tragedy, over a piece of mountain land that would uninhabitable possible for many years....nobody wins and the world loses !!

this is a test of these two nations and the responsibility that comes to bear having nuclear weapons. India is democratic, Pakistan is somewhat democratic, but Pakistan is not nearly as backwards as other muslim countries(afghanistan etc). This is why this country needs to be gravely concerned about countries like Iraq and Iran getting nuclear weapons. If Pakistan and India prove to the world they cannot control the use of these weapons, we better make damn sure that Iran and Iraq have ZERO capability to use these weapons..forcibly destroyed by all means necessary. Iran can already hit Israel, but so long as they can't reach the US I don't much care. Experts say by 2015 though they will have the missile technology to reach the US.

Good thing is that by 2015, we'll have our space zappy things to eliminate that threat.

It's a certainty. The only question is when. And this time, there will be no victor. Both sides will loose.

I fear that it is quite the opposite. They know exactly what these weapons will do. :Q

rickn: Do you think it is a little hypocritical to go into another country and take away their weapons, since we have been the only country to have even used nuclear weapons?

I heard it in the news that India and Pakistan can't wage real war, at least in the near future. The reason is climate. Old fashion tanks that both sides have won't be able to fire b/c it's too hot there right now, and soon there will be rain season or smth like that, thus no war, sorry. I share this opinion.

I was just thinking about this today. I think it's inevitable. If not soon, then someday. It's just a matter of time.

I wonder where the UN is. Don't they usually stick their noses into stuff like this? I never see them do anything productive.

maybe it is hypocritical, but at least the U.S. has some checks and balances. Our military cannot just fire a nuke off. In Pakistan, today Musharaff has the nukes, tomorrow the Taliban could overthrow him and they would have them. There is no control of them. Especially when you hear the leaders of the two countries spouting that they will use them when the time comes.

Good point(s). I love it when either one of the leaders say something, like a week or two ago when the Indian PM went to visit troops on the Line of Control, he told them to be ready for decisive action. Two days later at a press conference, he is like, 'that, oh, I didn't mean to say THAT". They something real harsh and when they see the other side reacts to it by either building up troops or say something even more ruthless, they step back. Seems like a game of cat and mouse.

I think both of these countries need smacked in the head. If I had to take a side though, I seem to remember that every incident we've sent troops to control in the last 10+ years has also included troops to Pakistan. They allways seem to be the first people to send their troops to help out.

Will they go to war? No. Neither Pakistan or India needs anything or wants it.

Pakistan subordinates want to go to war - its justified since the war would make the U.S. forces leave immediately. Alot of the lower chains of command are systematically subverting senior leadership and a big split has been publically known for at least two or three months now. Iran and China are the unlikely-but-willing participants in this whole affair, with Pakistan opposition groups garnering funding from the Iranians and arms from the Chinese. Iran's military is still weighed down with a hardcore anti-West leadership and looks at India's government as an (overly simplified) extension of the Western world. China would love to see India destabilized for thier own exploits along their own common border, plus they benefit from arm sales to both Pakistan and India. China has actually underbid the Russians for arms sales (especially ships, submarines, and warplanes) to India.

There will be a war, lets all pray that it does not involve nukes though.

Hmm, I agree. Im a bit leary of whether to believe's pakistan's claims that it is prepared to use a "first-strike" policy with nukes, but if its not a bluff than thats pretty scary. I've heard war, if it comes, would be about three weeks away.
