That would be at least a 2 hour drive (during non-snowy months), over the second largest mountain range in the country, to get to Reno. I could probably get to the only other significant city in NV (Las Vegas) in maybe 6 hours. How far is it from Sacramento to SLC?

ahh, this'll show some rough unemployment statistics for a really biased population!

Depends on the state you live in.

In New England its probably more common than say CA.

My step-dad has been making the trek from Idaho to Jackson Hole, Wyoming everyday for the past 3 years. It is a 2 hour drive and it goes over the Jackson Pass which gets pretty hairy in the winter.

I work in my home state but drive to a city right on the border with Louisiana. On the other hand a LOT of people from Louisiana commute to my state since the town I work in is the only relatively large one within miles that has decent employment opportunities.

I work in my home office downstairs. Before that, I worked 5 miles away on the same island. ;)
