I keep my old USR 56K ISA modem around for sending faxes through Win2K (love that fax service) Theoretically it is backup for my ADSL service, but I've never used it as such which says a lot about the quality of my broadband.

I bet some of us at least have ditched their modems.

What do you mean by that post?

EDIT: Oh, I got it now. Yeah well a lot of people still have fax machines and no email. :)

I kept mine and I never use it..lol I think I keep it in there just so that it fills one of my empty PCI slots.

I have an ISA winmodem in my machine. Thank god I never have to use it. When I go back to school it'll be a nice backup though, since our network seems to go down every other week.

Tominator: I just figured a lot of people where doing what I am, which is to keep them around. :) It's like keeping a rusty Pinto in your driveway just in case your Ferrari breaks down, but I guess we keep them anyway.

You don't even need to keep them for faxes if you use email fax. But again, it is nice to have them.

My work laptop has built in modem and ethernet and being on the road...I'm sure I will use the modem extensively to dial into the network at work from the field.

Ethernet cards are SO much simpler and efficient devices.

I still have my trusty external Zoom 56k modem (with flashy lights) for faxing and when the cable service goes down.

Still go one since its the only PCI card I have in my machine and I feel obligated to have a PCI card... Oh well... guess its good for when the cable modem service goes out...

I've been thinking about putting my modem back in for faxing...A free isp would be nice for when cable goes down....

Anyone know of a hassle free, free ISP ?

Now I just have to find a free faxware program.... Ahhhh I'm too damn lazy....... :)

Didn't get one when I got my new pc. Maybe I should have, since some of my games can't be played via tcp/ip. Oh well, I guess that means I have to get newer games. :)

My Digicom Winmodem has been sitting in in my closet since I got @Home.
