1 wd, 1 maxtor that caught on fire, and I preempted (ie: rma'd) one other wd 80gb/5400 a couple months back (it got a little excessively noisy).

None! I'm so lucky!

That and failure rates on HD's are really low, i think it's the way ppl handle them, like stacking them n something falls on em.

Or a little bump here n there installing/shippings the drive OEM.

Yeah I heard of the IBM issue, that's funny - but not for the people who lost one. :p

I had two drives die, but I don't really care.

- a 512MB quantum drive (me was dumb. Me tested it on 17V AC)
- a 10Gig fujitsu that most likely died of heat damage since I had it in a pentium server on top of another 10 gig drive. In fact, that whole server went caput about a month I had it. win2k on a Pentium with 32MB of ram was not a good idea to start off with. lol

Havent' ever had a hard drive die in 15 years. I turn off computers when I'm not using them, don't know if that's a factor. A don't leave my car running when I'm not using it either and I've never lost an engine. :D

I think I'd die sooner than the hard drive I got. I never had any HW or hard drive problems in general. The computer either gets too old or I just ge rid or it. The only thing I had broken was an old cheap video card due to my own fault.

Maybe that's the drive I should have. Too bad IBM is no more. I'm getting bored here not ever having any HD failures!

No dead HD's yet... *knocks on wood*

I really need to set up a server with RAID and a backup scheme.

It was a twenty gig WD unit. My system started to frequently but randomly crash. I replaced the powersupply, RAM, motherboard, and CPU before I got around to suspecting the hd.
