Who must register

Verify Registration

Almost all male U.S. citizens, and male aliens living in the U.S., who are 18 through 25, are required to register with Selective Service. It's important to know that even though he is registered, a man will not automatically be inducted into the military. In a crisis requiring a draft, men would be called in sequence determined by random lottery number and year of birth. Then, they would be examined for mental, physical and moral fitness by the military before being deferred or exempted from military service or inducted into the Armed Forces.

Yup, but if it ever came down to it, I'd volunteer before being picked.

Yes, I registered while still in high school.

Then, they would be examined for mental, physical and moral fitness by the military before being deferred or exempted from military service or inducted into the Armed Forces.

Just a hypothetical question: If you told them you f***ed goats, would they exempt you right then and there? Or require proof (and then pass it along to the DA to prosecute you for it)?

Because, frankly, I can see some people I know be willing to do anything to get out of military service.

I believe Joseph Heller wrote a book about something very similar...

Isn't it a felony to NOT be registered?

This thread might as well be "Are you a US citizen"

Somebody called? :D

I'm registered, but if there was a draft for one of Bush's sham wars, I would try ANYTHING (even jail) before I end up like this.

Actually it's not, and it was the last thing on my mind.

Just curious to see if people still registered, I was amazed to find my registration data on the web... over 20 years old stuff.

I registered as soon as I turned 18. And as someone above said, if it came to a real serious crisis (a la WWII) I'd go down and sign up long before I got drafted. War sucks, but some things are WORTH fighting for.

They made me fill out a Selective Service card once I arrived at Basic Training since I had recently turned 18, which I found rather amusing to say the least.

Unless you are a woman or physically handicapped... yeah, pretty much.

The casualties in Iraq, as a percentage of the total number of troops over there, have been rather light. I'd rather take that small chance than the much larger chance of getting @ss-raped in jail. Especially after the other inmates hear what you are in for. I would guess that you'd be on the short list, with the pedophiles.
