I'm curious... how do you guys with 2000+ MP3's archive these things so you can find everything quickly? I started organizing them by artist after I got over 500 of them, and it's still a pain to find what I'm looking for.

I really don't want to get too involved with the playlist features (because I switch between Winamp and Windows Medic Player all the time), so I was wondering what stratagies you guys use.

Poll options should have been:

0
1-300
300-1000
1000-2000
2000-4000
4000-6000
7000+

I've got 2500, used to have 6000 till I had a hard drive crash. All downloaded off the 'net. None ripped from my CD collection, perfectly illegal. :D

Mine are organized by genre: Rock, Industrial, Rap, etc. If its not recent (90s+) I'll throw it in an 80s folder because I don't have many of those =). My Electronica folder is the biggest because it has all the various genres of electronica (no way in hell am I organizing those =D). After the genre come artist folders, then album if applicable.

Usually when I'm looking for something I just use Search in windows, works wonders...
