I currently have 2 accounts: 1 checking account (w/ a debit card associated with it) and 1 savings account. I usually take my paychecks and split them up into these accounts. This isn't a bad plan, but I was just wondering how everybody else manages their finances. I'm only 18 though and I'm in school so I don't have as much liquid funds as everybody else ;)

I am going to be buying a car this month and I know I'll have to withdraw from both accounts to scrape up the money for it and this is where the question started.

If you use more than 1, are they checking/savings/other and why do you have them split up?

2. Checking and a Savings. When I went to school away from home, I had 2 checking accounts, but the second has been closed already :)

Umm...

2 x Checking accounts
3 x Savings accounts

Then there's the four credit cards, paypal, 401k, etc.

I voted one..I have checking/savings, but I have the minimum amount in savings & use checking for paypal transfers. Other than that, I don't really use them..

if you have that much extra money you ought to be investing it.

One checking, one savings, at different banks so I can always have access to cash without that silly ATM fee.
Then theres ING Direct and Paypal if you want to call those bank accounts.

I have both a checking and savings account at two different B&M banks, plus an INGDirect savings account ($1 after removing my $50 sign-up bonus).

At some point I will likely cancel my accounts at one of the two B&M banks, but I'm in no hurry.

4.
2 personal checking, 1 buisness checking, one savings. I also have an account with e-trade but I don't think you mean that. Same with my paypal account.

1 main checking account

1 main savings account

1 extra savings account that I created to help pay for my taxes at the end of the year (which I didn't have to pay and I actually got a refund so that money's just sitting there waiting to be used)

and...

1 checking account for my automatic car payment (at a different bank)

Life was much simpler when I only had 2 accounts, but once my car is paid off and I find something to do with my extra savings account then I'll be back to 2 acccounts.

2 savings:
ING Direct
Chase

2 Checking:
Chase
Wells Fargo

I opened up the checking account at Wells Fargo when I went to college because Chase doesn't have a single ATM in this city, but Wells Fargo has a million of em..
