POLL: How long do you keep a business card

I have a small hobby on the side and I am looking for some semi-scientific data.

I want to offer my customers a custom hand made pen, in a wood box, with their logo laser engraved.

My idea is that the person they give the pen/box to will keep this item indefinately, where a business card will be thrown out at some time.

Help me find out how long the public keeps a business card.

(The majority of my customers have been mortgage brokers, you only need them every couple of years, so a phone # laser engraved on a hunk of wood that someone isn't going to toss is an easy sell)

It depends on what for. If I'm interested in the business (or I envision a need for it), I store it. Otherwise it's gone the next day.

Yep I keep all business cards. I also get nice pens from a lot of people and I don't know where any are at.

dude, that's what phone books are for 😉

if it's business related, I'll keep the card around long enough to enter the relevant info into Outlook, then throw it away.

I keep them as long as I think I might have use for that person/company. THey don't take up much space so I just have a stack of them near my computer.

I've never thrown them away, though some were lost due to my untidiness. I have few opportunities to exchange business cards, so I can keep them all. But even names may have changed from the cards I got ten years ago.

gone the night I get home. If I really think I will need to talk to that person later, his info goes into my phone.

and then you lose your phone and all your business contacts are gone.

oh well.

I keep them forever. Have about 14 years worth of contacts and boy does it ever come in handy. Heck in some sales positions the size of your rolodex is what gets you the job.
