The e-payment services were all buggy when I looked at them a couple of years ago, so checks for bills and CC for purchases.

I have every single one of them automatically withdraw from my bank account. That way it is completely free (having the bank pay the bills is expensive, but the other way around is free, I've never figured that part out), and I never have to worry about getting a bill in on time. Just call me lazy.

electronically is so much easier than the other methods... plus I don't have to open up regular mail... just click the email, click a couple buttons, and done.

So where can I sign up for free online bill paying? Do I have to contact each company that I get a bill from and tell them they can take money electronically?

Some banks actually control it for you.

1) If you go to your bank and pay your bills from your bank (you have to type each one in individually), then most likely you will have a monthly fee for this service. This of course will vary from bank to bank (like mine if you have over $5000 in the bank the monthly fee is waived).

2) If you go to each company that bills you and tell them your bank account number (if you do this online it is the same amount of work on your part as #1), then it is completely free in all cases I've ever seen.

I have yet to see a good reason why I should do #1 and pay a lot of money instead of doing #2 for free.

I pay them all online... 50% of my bills are taken from my bank account automagically and the other half I push thru online manually because I feel the need to know when those get processed each month.

Sure does, I'm locked out of my account though at the moment. I had to change the password and I seem to have forgotten it:(
