Poll: "How" do you go to sleep? Use any sleeping aids?

everything off, semi-dark.

I go to bed around 6 am, as the sun is starting to rise, and the windows in my bedroom face the east. unless I'm in bed before 5 am, it's never pitch black. plus my street is kinda noisey, even at night.

after living in college dorms, though, I'm able to sleep through just about anything if I have to.

I can understand the fan, though. at the end of every summer, I get so accustomed to the white noise of having my AC on all night that it seems strange those first couple nights for the room to be so silent.

one of my roommate's in college had to have music playing whenever he went to bed. it was the most bothersome thing ever. he listened to crappy music, frequently left it on repeat so it'd be playing all night, and would immediately wake up if it was turned off :Q

I must admit, that is worse than a fan.
 
I drink beer to go to sleep. Why don't you have this in your poll, this place is full of alcoholics like someone said earlier
 
first i was put on trazadone... that quickly lost its effectiveness. next up was ambien, and although it put me to sleep, i didn't feel any better upon waking up (not any more refreshed after 8 hours than if i had only 2 hours without it). i'm currently on sonata, but it is slowly losing its effectiveness, albeit at a slower rate than the trazadone.

i really hope i can find something that works 🙁

They're in denial. Me, I'm going to swallow 350ml of distilled...oral hygene product (to kill bad breath causing germs you understand) and try to drift off to sleep. Having a beer to make yourself sleepy sounds like a bad habit leading to worse down the road if you ask me.

Ok, that works, but it's a bad idea.

Thinking up a complicated story helps to get my mind off the rest of the thoughts of the day and drift off. For some friends this has helped, for others it's been a total bust. The only real downside for me is I occasionally get the idea I should write a book.
 
the average time to fall asleep is supposedly 7 minutes but it take me like an hour.
quiet or with soft music, can't get to sleep
 
ah. I do need to read before going to sleep.

probably a carryover from my parents reading to me every night from birth until I could read for myself.

I absolutely cannot go to sleep without reading something before going to bed, even if it's just a product manual or some random passage from the bible.
 
I have near total darkness (my hall accent lights dim to become nightlights) and an aircleaner running for white noise.

I have a hard time sleeping now without some kind of fan running.
 
Fan + Radio. I don't need them to sleep but they are always on. My radio has a timer feature. I set it for 30 minutes. If I'm still awake and it shuts off I know I'm in for a sleepless night.
 
normally, i can sleep under ANY conditions. i often sleep in the dentist chair while they are working on my mouth.

occasionally if i get stressed/have lots of crap in my work/life/family, i have trouble sleeping, so i just stay up, but normally i can sleep anywhere/anytime
 
dark + talk radio ... i need something to focus on otherwise my mind will race. talk radio seems to work well.
