POLL: (HOW) DO YOU FINE TUNE YOUR MONITOR SETTINGS? ***UPDATED***

Hi guys,
Anyways I got to thinking... my new monitor has lots of nifty settings I can change, but I don't know how to adjust them properly for the best picture. So, what do I do? Naturally I post it on Anandtech, as I'm sure there's an enlightened monitor tuner among us, and because I'd like to see what you guys think. I've heard of DVD kits that you can buy to fine tune your TV (I think it's the TV? or the DVD player?) to get the maximum quality out of it and I was wondering: does the same thing exist for monitors? A kit I can buy? A program I can use? Some sort of webpage that'll help me out. It would really help me out, thanks. (An afterthought, is this even possible since all video cards are different, could such a solution exist? 🙁 (I hope so)

*UPDATE* Thanks to user Zim Hosein over in Peripherals, we have this helpful link!!!

My experience with this is that changing anything apart from the very obvious things like size, position, etc. causes more problems than there vere in the beginning. If the picture is good, do not screw around too much in the settings. I remember we had at work one 21' Silicon Graphics monitor (I guess it was SONY in fact, just had the SGI badge) and that thing had all possible controls up to individual focus of the 3 electron cannons ! But the more I was touching things like that, the worse it got.
