I never did a poll before and this will be my very first poll.
How do you guys feel about nuclear weapons? I think nuclear weapons, along with all weapons of mass destruction should be phased out internationally. They do so much damage to innocent civilians and that's just wrong.

I like tac nukes. Strategic nukes are too messy and you can't occupy the terrain afterwards. ;)

I dunno. The thought that a chunk of uranium the size of a six pack of beer can take out a good chunk of NYC is very frightening.

Intimidation can be a very effective deterrent. We (in the US) have them in the hopes that they will never be used. OTOH, Saddam would be tempted to use them to get what he wants. There is a very big difference. There is no way to enforce a law that bans nukes anyway. There will always be rouge states and terrorist groups that will obtain them. Our current policy is the best.

But the problem is you cannot prevent it and therefore you might as well have them

It takes a min. of 10lbs to make a nuke (about the size of a 12 pack).

You sure about that? Uranium is VERY dense. It doesn't take a very large pile to make up that little of weight.

That pretty much sums it up.

Yes. Nukes do not prevent wars. That is simply ideology that belongs in the same catagory as the anti-war protesting going on at the moment.

Nukes do damage. That's all they do. With the correct application of their advertisement, they may prevent certain other significant happenings --but all a nuke threat is going to do is warrant another nuke threat in return. In today's world, nuke threats typically aren't used on countries who do not have similar capabilities. And what is threatening another country going to do? Probably going to get them to threaten back.

It's all kinda dumb, but I'm glad that they've been used in the past.

I honestly wish that nuclear weapons technology could be "unlearned" somehow.

They are one of the few weapons that really scare me.

Where would we be without them? I think what is more scary than having them is the thought of a world that would have developed without them!

I wish the world would no need for nuclear weapons. Its hard to say if they have helped humanity or not, without the threat of nuclear retaliation who knows how many wars the USA and USSR would have had.

Perhaps, but I find the possibility of them being used on a large scale in the future to be terrifying. (you never know)

True. But, then again, if we're all blown up, we'll be dead. We won't care.

;) :p

Well it doesn?t mater if everyone has them or just few nations. If nuclear war ever happens consider everyone on this planet pretty much dead. One us submarine have enough nukes to destroy earth just by it self.

Shut up.

A hurricane unleashes more energy in 10 minutes than a nuke. No matter what you read, we don't have enough nukes to destroy the planet. Now, kill most life in large areas on the surface, that's another consideration.
