What channels are you getting? Can you pick up local stations thru cable?

Local stations in both SD and HD, plus a few HD only channels (INHD, Discovery HD, etc.).

Right now I'm getting a bunch of stuff I don't think I'm supposed to have, so we shall see.

sweet

what's the overall quality of the HD signals, are they mostly in true HD?

I just found a way today to get literally tons of HD material using a HTPC so I'm fairly giddy right now

BTW, Arkitech, which HDTV did you end up getting?

I have a Zenith 32" (c32v37) that I bought in March, but believe it or not I've yet to watch anything on it in HD. (extremely busy this year) I can comment on the SD which is fantastic through Dishnet. Before the year is out I would like to buy the biggest DLP I can afford.

Is that the one that gets the rave review on AVS forum?

I remember a CRT Zenith HDTV that was pretty inexpensive that they were making a big deal over.

i get Adelphia digital cable.... its really good... and went down only once... When an alligator bit thru the cable somewher... took out cable for half the state

Comcast over a DCT5100. got the local ABC, CBS, NBC affiliates in HD, ESPNHD, DISC-HD, INHD1, INHD2, plus a few premiums in HD that I don't suscribe to.

yep that's the one, its pretty sweet. I just wish it had a couple of more inputs for component and DVI. It has 2 components and 1 DVI

I have Comcast, Motorla 6200 and I record to a JVC DVHS deck over Firewire.

Comcast enabled DTCP protection over Firewire so it's the only way to record stuff like HBO, SHO, etc. If you try to save "Copy Once" flagged stuff to your PC over Firewire you'll get an empty file.

hmm interesting, I did'nt realize that Comcast could set limitations on their HD streams like that. Where is the flag embedded? Is it in the actual HD signal or is it somehow added inside of the 6200?

EDIT: Are the HD tapes like the typical VHS tapes, does the PQ degrade after repeated viewings?

Directv + Samsung SIR-TS360. However I have a tree blocking my C signal on DTV which is really pissing me off since the only HD channel I can get without subscribing to anything else is HBO HD and that's on the C!!! I would have the tree cut down except its over 100 feet tall and its on my neighbors property in a highly populated area which means it would cost a ton to take down.

DTCP is set in the box. There are three settings, "Copy Always", "Copy Once" and "Copy Never". Comcast has set all premium digital channels (including HD) to "Copy Once". If you hook up your 6200 over firewire to a non-compliant DTCP device (ie: Computer) you won't be able to do anything with the premium channels. If you try to make a copy of a "Copy Once" recording you get nada as well.

DVHS recorders are the only DTCP devices currently available, so it's the only way to record digitally off the cable box.

DVHS is digital, so the PQ doesn't degrade as would an analog tape- you're making a perfect digital copy. Now you could say that the signal would eventually degrade, but if you use good tape it won't happen for a long time. But since the big studios use digital tape for most stuff these days anyways it's not much of an issue.

I use $4 Fuji SVHS tapes. They work fine.
