Poll: Here's a HOT one! PC survives FIRE!

I run offshore trawlers. My boat boat burnt up in the shipyard during repairs. The navigational PC in the pilot house was a celeron 300 running 450 on an Abit BH6. Flames never reached the pilothouse but the heat melted the face off the case, CD, floppy, and Zip drives. After the Fire Dept got done soaking EVERYTHING, I thought, what the hell. I took the box home for a look. The beep code indicated bad video so after putting in a cheap PCI ATI card I flipped the switch and 98 booted right up! QUESTION....... What should I use to clean the MOBO with? Besides the stink, this thing has soot and tar all over it.

Use some isopropyl alcohol with a soft cloth. Be careful not to knock off any capacitors. I've done this already, after one of my friends salvaged his PC from the ashes.

Oh, and even after cleaning the board it's gonna stink for a while.

yeah I know. Why do people put poll on the topic when there's no poll. Do people even know how to use the poll feature? Is poll the new catch word?

Anyway, nice story. 🙂

I'll borrow a digital camera later today and post a picture. Sorry about the poll. I have another MOBO, a California Graphics Super 7, that a cat sprayed in. Just looking for advice in cleaning cruddy mobos and printed circuits. Thanx
