Poll: Help!!!! To OC 750MHz PIII on i-815ep or run it "default" on Via Apollo ProA so that memory can run at 133MHz

I hope my brilliant patrons can help me with this one: (PLEASE VOTE IN THE POLL)

Facts: Building computer system for relative who ALREADY purchased an Intel PIII 750Mhz
FC-PGA processor. I have a 128MB Mushkin PC-133 Rev 2 CAS 2-2-2 DIMM that I want to use in the system. But if I purchase an Intel i-815ep mobo, one can only run the memory at 100MHz when one is using a 100 MHz system bus processor. Now on a VIA Apollo Pro 133a, for instance, one CAN run the memory asynchronously to 133MHz while running the processor at 100MHz system bus. Problem is, the VIA chipset does not have very good "memory bandwith" performance as compared to the i-815ep.

other important aspects of system:

Hard Drive- the 20 or 40 GB IBM from the 60GXP series (I haven't made up my mind yet, hope you all can help)

Mobo-that's what this post is about, lol

Videocard- Asus V7700 GeForce 2 GTS Deluxe 32MB

DVD- Pioneer DVD-115

Soundcard- Turtle Beach Montego II Quadzilla (Aureal Vortex II)

Modem- USR model 2976 (controller-based) PCI modem

Power Supply- 365W Enermax EG365P-VE

THE REAL QUESTION IS:

A) Should I just buy a good i-815ep mobo (like the Asus Cusl2-C) and run the memory at 100MHz? OR

B) Try to OC the 750 on a 133MHz bus in order to run the memory at 133MHz? And if so, which model of mobo do you think would best be able to do this? I know there are a LOT of variables, the biggest in this case being the CPU itself since the other buses would be running to "spec". OR

C) Buy a good Via Apollo Pro 133A (or other, any suggestions) mobo and run the CPU at stock 750 MHz and the RAM at 133MHz.

Operating system to be used: Windows 98 Second Edition (Clean Install)
Main use of system: GAMING

I have a soyo SY-7ISA+ motherboard and i am running my memory at 100MHz, but my processor has a 145 MHz FSB(tweaked it a bit :]). And it uses the Intel i815 chipset, so you can use it.

OMG, you're gonna build a system on Friday the 13th.

That system is doomed from the start.;)

I say keep it all intel & get the 815.

Spam: Thank you for your post but I think you "missed" my point. I don't want to run the memory at 100MHz if I can help it...I think running it at 133MHz on a GOOD mobo would be best. The problem is the processor, which is the PIII 750, a 100MHz FSB processor.

BUD: LMAO.... I wouldn't EVEN THINK of building a computer today, Friday the 13th (I'm EST so it's already Friday... but I need to make a quick decision and purchase of the mobo by today so newegg can have it here early next week and I can have it finished ASAP.

Keep the responses coming....

Bud: BTW, thanks for your suggestion. I'm leaning towards the Intel i-815ep just because I'm using an Asus CUSL2 (i-815e) based system right now and it's been fantastic. BUT, I DO want OTHER opinions too, lol.....

I'd say 1 or 2, I think the Intel i815 is overall better than the VIA 133A. Option 1 is just fine, 100/100 will work fine for a non-tweaker home system. And may I suggest using the MSI 815EP Pro as the motherboard, it's quite a bit cheaper than CUSL2, and I think its a better board.

Lxi: Thanks.

BTW: You can certainly suggest the MSI 815EP Pro............. it's around $9 less than the Asus CUSL2-C at newegg and has 4 channel built-in sound (good for bargain-hunters) while the Asus does not.

BTW2: I'm at MSI's site and I see they have a 815ET Pro (for Tualatin support) but I'm scrolling at pricewatch and I can't find it anywhere. It would be nice for the "option" of upgrading to Tualatin CPU down the road. I know of a vendor who claims to have the Gigabyte GA-60XET, I believe the first mobo to anticipate those who might want to do PIII "Coppermine" now and upgrade later to PIII? Tualatin. They want $122.95 for it, plus shipping.

Hmmmmmmm

I believe the 815 chip set can run memory asynchronous. I have an MSI 815e pro board and under Advanced Chip Set option you can set your memory to auto, 100 or 133 and then under the Frequency Control you have the option of over clocking by slight adjust and setting your memory timings by SPD. I believe the only difference between the 815e and the 815ep chipset is the lack of built in graphics controller. BTW when I first got the board I had an old Cellery 500 running and the memory was set to 100 while the FSB was at 66, when overclocked the FSB was at 83 and the memory was at 117.

I just bought a Chaintech 815e chipset mobo with 5PCI slots for $49.
Have not installed yet. I'm partial to the onboard video.

I still have the P3-750 on my son's 'puter. The most I can OC it was 127FSB. If you want to run the memory in synch with the FSB, 127 is not bad at all. So go for the i815.

IMHO: Forget about VIA boards, too many problems. Get a BX board; it's still the fastest (I think) and trouble free. I'm partial to Abit boards, but just get one where you can jack-up the buss speed by 1 mhz at a time. The 100mhz P3 750 should be a great overclocker.
