I want a digital camera bad, but the camcorder comes first. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then imagine the value of hi-res video with hi-fi sound! Imagine TV that showed nothing but stills... and no sound! I can get by with a 35mm camera and my scanner, but how would I replace my priceless video? :Q

I'm still not clear on yer needs. What do you want more, digital stills or digital video? Many camcorders allow you to take still pictures, but the quality isn't very good (the res is locked at 720/640*480 depending if you get a DV camera or not). If you don't mind sticking w/the 35mm + scanner route for stills then get a miniDV camcorder.

your best bet is to get a nice camcorder and save up later for a digital camera rather than getting a camcorder for the purpose of taking higher res stills..
