Hello, I will be building my first rig soon (see sig and ignore X850XT). With all of these new cards on the horizon, I am in a dilemma. Here are my three choices. Please voice your opinion.

Choice 1 - Buy X850XT now and enjoy fastest gaming experience possible.

Choice 2 - Buy X800XL now, and wait for G70/R520

Choice 3 - Buy cheap PCI card to hold me over until G70/R520 (Only applicable if G70/R520 will be available to buy in mid June/early July)

I am so tempted to buy the X850XT, but I'm afraid that two weeks afterwords, it will be dethroned by R520/G70. I know that there will always be something better around the corner, but this would really be bad, since those new cards are supposed to be luanched around mid June, which is right when I am building the PC.

This leads to a few more questions.

1. When they (ATI/Nvidia) say their new GPU's will be launched, does this mean paper launched or actually launched for the consumer?.

2. Because if June 22 is the paper launch date, then that means that you won't actually be able to buy the card until around September, right?

Thank you ver much,
Waylay00

Depends on what res's you play on, etc.

My personal choice would be buy X800XL and keep it until you actually need a newer card to play the new games at higher res's/IQ, this is what I did.

As would I...

An x800xl is a great card and will run most of the newer games close to maxed. When newer games start coming out that start to slow you down a bit, then go for a next gen card. Save some money.

Definitely the xl. The x850 xtpe will cost you about 2x as much (for pci-e anyway), but you will not get 2x performance out of it. The xl for pci-e is the best deal for your money in the high end range. You might even end up keeping it for another year until the gf8 / r600 are out, it should still be good for awhile.

Yeah, I'll only be running at 1024x768 resolution until I get my new monitor (probably around October (bday) or December (xmas) ) Any more comments?

get a pci card, and save ur money for the g70s. My friend did that, when he wanted 2 6600gts but couldn't afford it. Save ur cash and go top-of-the-line G70!

But will they be out by mid June? I know they are supposed to be launched on June 22, but does this mean that Nvidia starts sending the chip to their party manufacturers? Or does this mean that the cards will actually be available for purchase. I don't want to have to wait till August or September to play on my computer. That's the whole point in me building it - I wanted to play with it over the summer.
