Ok, well it's almost winter time again, and I am one of those unfortunate souls who has no choice but to drive my Mustang in these rough New England winters. I decided to get a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks for it so it will make my winter driving as good as possible.

Anywho, I currently have the original 16" x 7" "Pony" rims on the car now, and those will get the Blizzaks and serve as my winter set. I'm planning on picking up a new set of rims and tires for the rest of the year.

Here is the car

Now, The two rims I am considering are both 17" and will be skinned with four 245/45/ZR17 Dunlop Sport 8000's.

Now, here are the two rims I'm deciding between...

AT Italia rims @ Tirerack

or

SVT Cobra "R" Replicas @ DTD

The AT Italias are 17" x 8.5", and the Cobra "R" replicas are 17" x 9".

If you go here, you can see them on the car. For the SVT replicas, just use the real SVT rims link and imagine it without the center emblem. 🙂

As of now, I'm leaning toward the AT Italias since the Cobra R's seem common on the Mustangs..

So, which one is it? 😉

*Update*

Third choice...

ASA JS5 16in. X 8in.

Are you f'n crazy?

Go buy a winter beater. No snow tire/rim combo is going to make that thing hook up in the snow, except maybe studded snow tires. 😕

Crazy?!?! No, but I am Insane. 😉

I have been driving it in the winter for about 10 years now, with the Z-Rated Dunlops. The trick is to go slow so if you wipe out, it's minimal. 😉 I have a very short drive to work, maybe 10 minutes all highway and I go to work @ 11pm so I don't drive in traffic. One more plus...I work in a hotel and if the weather is going to be bad, I can just come in early and get a room for free. 😉

That poor car must be slowly rusting out.

Actually, I've always taken very good care of the car, and I wash it by hand throughout the window anytime the temp goes above the magic 32 degree mark. I also had it painted about 5 years ago with a overkill paint job...it went through the booth more than 5 times. The only place I have a few rust spots are on the hatch (Toyota Celica-itis) and one little area under the paint on the fender. Under the car and the body are rust free.

That picture was taken last spring, and the car is coming up on being 12 years old.

None of them look right. To curved and organic for such a boxy (but good looking) car.

Hmmm. Well, the only other option I've seen is a 16" rim...16 x 8 to be exact. I haven't seen too many other options...it seems they mainly make rims for FWD vehicles, and my 4 lug setup is not very common anymore.

ASA JS5 16in. X 8in.

I like the design of the other two better because it has more room to show off my cross drilled rotors. 😉

If anyone can find any other options out there for my car, please feel free to post them. 🙂

I would stick with what you've got. If you REALLY want to make a change, get some expensive chrome spray paint and just put 2 or 3 coats on there. Seriously, I don't think you really need new rims.

For your Fox body I'd have to say neither. I personally am not too fond of the Cobra R wheels. The 94-97 Cobra wheels would look much nicer on your Fox, ala:

My favorite is still the 93 Cobra wheels:

Thanks, but the reason I'm getting new rims is because I am using the existing ones for snow tires so I can have them mounted once and easily switch when bad weather comes...or goes. I do not want chrome for two reasons, up here there is a lot of road salt used, and chrome is especially sensitive to it and generally very hard to keep up on a daily driven car. Second, on a solid color Mustang, I would prefer chrome, but on my two tone model with a silver clearcoated lower half, I would like to keep the rims the same color. The painted rims are generally easier to take care of, and if kept regularly waxed, they are easier to keep clean.

I like those rims too, but I'm actually not a fan of them on the fox bodies, not to mention they are not silver painted which I prefer to have for the reasons I listed above. As for the 93 Cobra rims, they are nice, but I prefer the look of the 93 Cobra "R" rims. They were very similar to the optional 17 inchers that were available on the 94-96 (95?) Mustang GT's. They are silver in color, and have three pairs of straight spokes...no pics sorry. 🙁

As of now, I'm strongly leaning toward the AT's since they are cheaper, less common (the SVT's are on a lot of Mustangs), and they do not have a lug nut to cover to pry off. I really like the "clean" simple look of the AT's...nothing too flashy, smooth lines.

Keep those replies coming. 🙂
