We have seen a peculiar problem with Intel PIII 600Mhz processor(550 M also showed the same). We use AVID heat sink for the processors. We tied using the heat sink without removing the thermal compund sticker at the base. the server will hang when we try installing NT. if already installed it will hang in the NT screen. On disabling processor cache the system will work fine but will give very low performance. IF we remove the sticker and use the same heatsink the processor just works very fine.
