Telemarketers are almost universially dispised. However, they continue to do business. I have heard that a 1-2% acceptance rate will make money. Have you ever been part of the 1-2% that bought something from a telemarketer?

I have only been hooked once: About 4 years ago, mortgage rates were going up and I had a 1 year ARM. I wanted to convert to a fixed at the time, however I had just been laid off from work. I delighted in asking each person calling me about a new mortgage "I was just laid off work, can you get me approved for a loan?" This one mortgage broker said yes, so I went through with it. Big mistake. Ended up costing us some money.

Please relate you experiences with telemarketers.

Nope. Never will. Of course they are no longer permitted to call my phone number either.

I HATE them! I keep a log and make sure to tell them to put me on their don't call lists. But I've transfered money from higher interest CC accounts to 0%, or low interest accounts before. At the end they suggest you buy their "CC protection" plan for X amount per month. That's where they get their money. I just say, no thank you... bye! :D

i would never buy from them even if they weren't pushing scams. even being polite to them just encourages them to call again. i make it a point to waste as much of their time as i can. this is one industry that i hope goes away very soon, and if the federal do-not-call list really works, we will hopefully soon have a lot of unemployed telemarketers. :D
