macs are ok as long as it's a G4 running OSX. but the G3's gets their asses handed to them on plates by Pentium II's, let alone PIII's or P4's. And OS9 might have been the biggest piece of garbage to ever be called an OS. It made Windows ME look rock solid and lightening quick in comparison. ;) And um, no multitasking means no productivity. So it's OSX or nothing for me. But ok, so you get a G4 with OSX. You finally spent enough on a Mac to make it usable. But the problem is now you've spent double or triple what it would cost to get a screaming P4 or Athlon machine that can do more and do it faster. Not to mention PC's are easier to do maintenence on. So although you can make Macs into good machines, there's no reason to actually buy one.

The company is Apple, smart guy.

"Accord is such a crappy company, those guys make lousy cars" <-- sounds real intelligent, huh?

Used on recently, wasn't impressed by much. OS X LOOKS nice...wouldn't say its functionality was any more intuitive or fluid than Windows, and the first time I used OSX I got a kernel panic (this on a freshly imaged ibook), so I'm not sure if the stability is really much better than XP either.

The hardware again LOOKS nice but doesn't strike me as anything impressive beyond skin-deep. The only apple piece of hardware I'd consider buying is the Powerbook since I like its wide-aspect 15.2" screen and it's fairly compact for what it offers. But if it weren't for my friend working for apple and getting me a 25% discount, I wouldn't even consider buying that.

That isn't the question.

BTW, Red Wings own j00. :D

We have loads of OS X Macs at the U of M - it's a great OS but slow as hell when it's in a networked environment. In the labs here on campus it takes AT LEAST 45 seconds longer to login to a Mac machine than the Win2K machines we've got there too.

So the question is "Have you actually USED a Mac lately?" And I am talking about G3/G4 Macs. Newer technology.

Hey where's the option for "No I'm not a paranoid dellusional geek who has nothing better to do than play use Adobe products all day long, and I don't care about using the vast majority of hardware/software out there?"?

What?

Just asking....

So I can put you down for a "No but I bash them anyways"? With that response it is obvious you haven't.

I own a G4 iMac with OSX as a website test machine. OSX is a great os, a lot better than any previous mac OS. Still like windows better, but I can honestly say that I don't look down on macs like I did before OSX.
