Crytek is not involved at all with Far Cry 2. In case you failed to notice, EA is publishing Crysis for Crytek and Ubisoft is doing Far Cry 2 in-house on a new engine.

This is because Ubisoft retained the rights to the Far Cry brand and Crytek kept their engine.
I bet that Far Cry 2 is on the UT3 engine.
I'll bet it's not, since it's not.
And you have a link? Your statement is just as good as mine without one.

I call bs.
No it won't.

1) There is no SLI support
2) if 1 ultra only averages 25fps and NO other game on the planet gets a 100% speedup from SLI, do not expect a 150% speedup just from SLI.
Where does it state there is no SLI support?

In the Readme it specifically states that multiple GPUs are usable:

"Some hardware vendors have solutions to utilize multiple graphic
cards in parallel (e.g. Crossfire or SLI) and that can greatly improve
render performance. This requires the engine to run in the
"MultiGPU" mode. The speedup depends on the scene and system
properties like the main processor performance. Frame rate can be
less stable but is often much higher."

iirc, Cervat stated that NVIDIA needs to implement some fixes in the drivers to properly enable SLI so it's not a game limitation. Additionally, one of the guys over at NVNEWS claims to have gotten SLI working in Crysis as well.

And with the new 8800gt, great SLI performance has suddenly become way more affordable to the masses.
Well Crossfire does not work with this demo right now, I can confirm that.

I thought multi-GPU support was only going to be available on the final game, not the demo?

KT
Could be. I know that in the Crysis SP Demo\Bin32 folder there's a file named "atimgpud.dll." Possibly that's a file provided by ATI to enable crossfire but I could be mistaken. Maybe it's actually for something else?

Knowing crossfire doesn't work in the Demo doesn't mean that ATI might not have tried though, if you know what I mean? ;)

Here's some screenshots one of the members over at NVNEWS posted, claiming SLI was working:

Nvidia and Crytek forums both state SLI not supported in current releases. One guy's Claim means nothing when you don't post a link to this and have someone test it. SLi = worse performance than single card right now with current drivers and demo/mp beta releases.

I do not expect any SLI/Crossfire configuration to give 60fps in DX10 with very high set on everything at a resolution where you would be GPU limited.
Like I said before, Cervat stated a driver issue is the reason SLI is not currently working. Then again, SLI in Vista has been a bit wonky anyway, not to mention SLI support for 8800s in general. As important a game as Crysis is hopefully they'll get those issues ironed out quickly.

Link provided in my previous post of the guy claiming to have gotten SLI working. I'm not vouching for the veracity of his claim either, just pointing out that he made the claim.

As far as being GPU-bound and not getting 60fps...ime, Crysis seems very playable at 30fps. If SLI can offer that at higher resolutions and very high settings I doubt there will be too many complainers. Of course there will still be a few whiners because it seems that's how some people get their jollies.

The demo runs a bit too slow for my machine. I was hoping I'd be able to throw the trees I chop down with my gun and cars when I have super strength on, though. Just barrels basically - meh.

I'd like to see someone run -devmode with SLI enabled. Then you could see their triangle count and see what mode they are running in (DX10 or DX9). Still, 15fps in dual GPU configurations is pretty unplayable anyhow regardless of settings. I hope that something can be done to speed up performance. I'm still thinking that it will be next year before you can really play Crysis on very high. Whether by design of the engine being so complex, or unoptimized in general...performance needs to be better in DX10.

I totally agree that 30fps is playable. You just can't achieve that in DX10 which is the reason many people were interested in Crysis to begin with.

It's still early. Hopefully with some driver improvements and maybe a patch or two those issues will be ironed out.

I heard it was announced that Crysis went gold today too. Nov. 16 release date.

Starting a sentence with "I thought it was..." comes off as a sarcastic tone when you read it back.

And that other guy "I bet it's not, cause its not" read that back and pretend it's directed at you.

whatever though...I just figured on a technology forum devoid of the typical 12 year old Halo players that we wouldn't have to even discuss this.

He didn't mean it the way you heard/read it... And the other guy was just joking abit... abit! LOL... :D

I remember back in the day when Abit's were ripped on and we were like 'abit unstable'...
Good times...

Im not buying the full version after playing the demo, I was not impressed by it. I agree with those who have said it is a re-make of Far Cry. I especially dont like the fact that my 8800 gts640 has me running at 10FPS in DX10. GFX are nice, but the game play sucked. Im more of Mp person anyways, so Ill stick with UT3.

Can't we all just get along! No offense intended, I assure you.

I started the post that way because I was at first going off memory, then I decided to not be a lazy ass and actually find a link. I guess I should have modified the first part after that.

Anyway, back on topic. Yes, for me it has lived up to the hype. I was disappointed with the MP beta, but I knew all along I really just wanted the campaign and it has been everything I have hoped for so far.

I couldn't disagree more that the suit is "mildly useful" Speed, invisibility, strength are terrific ways to vary up the gameplay, and that you have only a couple seconds of each tempers it from becoming too godlike. The manner they implemented it with the mouse gesture is simplistic and genius. The pre-release vids seemed intimidating. Modding the guns isn't something to do on the run, but when would you really have time to in the middle of a firefight? AI wasn't that impressive. Vehicles run a bit slower than they should I think. The game runs great on my system at 16x12 (C2d, 8800gts640). I thought there'd be no way I could run it on High but it's very smooth. I'm impressed.
Problem is...you can go through the WHOLE demo without using anything but max armor and strength (to jump in the spots it forces you to). You never really need or have use for the cloak or the speed ever.

It's a gimmick.
The speed and cloak are fun to play with though. I liked shooting, then cloaking. It really tested the hunt and kill AI tactics. And yes, it lived up to the hype :)

Perhaps when you have a card capable of playing DX10 maxed out you'll come back and try it from the bargain bin. for $9.99 heh

I think the demo was quite good. It did seem a lot like a 'prettier' version of Far Cry, but all in all, not bad/. I'll definitely be buying the game. But Bioshock left more of an impression on me because it was unlike any other game.........just my 2 cents.......

The cloak barely drains at all if you don't move and otherwise only as fast as your movement. It's better to sneak with the cloak enabled, find a good recharging spot, and switch back and forth if you're going to play the game stealthily. Just because you can do without it (as you can with most things) doesn't mean it's worthless.

im getting both, woot :D

i'm very curious as to why framerates are so hit or miss with crysis.

i have an E4300 @ 2.2ghz, 2gigs DDR, and an X850XT.

running SP @ 1280x1024 with everything at medium - averaging about 20-25fps, but it's absolutely playable (which seems rather odd).

ah, didn't realize it didn't drain much when you didn't move...although wtf's the point in that?
