is there really a big difference between the two? or between all of the different handheld computers for that matter? i own a handspring but i'm wondering if the sales pitch is true.

No, very little difference.. handsprings allow modules to be added where most palms don't, but palms allow you to upgrade the os, handsprings don't...

Upgrading the operating system is not such a useful feature
since the OS doesn't really change that much. Everything
seems to be backwards compatible and I never had problems
with programs on my visor. One thing that is really cool
is the new set of springboard modules that let you use
CF cards for memory. Soon I will have 256mb on my visor.
Beat that Palm! :p

I've owned several palms and a handspring and they all suck compared to my 3150 ipaq

Neither, iPAQ :) But of the two choices I like the palm a little better, just since you can upgrade the OS. Unless you like the addon's for the handspring.

Functionally, nothing more than a skinny and overpriced visor :p

I like the Visor Deluxe becuase of the springboard port, and USB connectivity.

The m500 and m505 use USB as well, the rest use a USB adapter but run at serial speed.
