There are GUI clients?

Yeah, stuff like WSFTP, CuteFTP, etc.

sarcasm detection was never a strong point, right? 😉

I've learned never to assume anything - especially on the boards. 😉

Sarcasm is tough to tell on the internet, especially when I go through my no smilie phases.

Ditto.

I never understood why people would purposely limit themselves when there are easier (graphical drag/drop) solutions out there, even for free.

console is for people who think they are too cool for GUI. I like whatever is easier (GUI)

I dont have to set things up with the console. I telnet or ssh into half of the hosts I ftp from. I know the commands to get the settings I want in the console. Its not that I think Im cooler for using it. Its just easier. For me.

It depends. Where is the option for "both"?

If I am on a linux box, I use the console.

On a windows box, it depends on what client (if any) they have.

I'm just too cheap and lazy to find a decent freeware ftp client.

You've never had to download/upload entire directories? If something failed along the way... you'd have to seek out where it left off and continue without wildcards. Manageable queues are great. Just a couple of reasons off the top of my head to use them.

That comes as a surprise.... but whatever's easiest I guess!! 🙂

Nope. I've honestly never really had to do site management or anything of the sort. If I was really that desperate I'd usually zip or tar the entire directory tree of what I wanted before I transfered it.

haha, whatever it's all good.. 😀

What? That's all I get?

SmartFTP says something about ftp via ssl, is that the same as this sftp you're all talking about?

GUI if I'm using Windows, CLI if I'm I'm using Unix, Linux, or DOS. I use a GUI program for my FTP server too because I like to monitor it. That's the one thing that made me switch from BSD to 2k for my FTP server, because I couldn't find a decent GUI program or parser to monitor my server with. 🙁
