They are really good but I wager the IPO is going to inject the suck into them.

I'd say at least 60-70% of all incoming traffic I see coming from search engines comes from Google these days; that's a lot of power for one company to have.

I still use Google more than any other search engine, but I must admit that I'm tired of sifting through 99 generated pages that redirect to ebay or Amazon to find one real page whenever I'm looking for technical information about a piece of computer or networking hardware.

I still use Yahoo, IMO as far as searching goes, there's nothing spectacularly different about it when it comes to web searches...

Yahoo's search engine is obsolete, so they added every feature under the sun to attract people. Google is slowly adding those features and eventually will KILL or EAT Yahoo. The real competition will be between Google and M$.

Apparently Yahoo has made HUGE strides with their new, improved search engine. I assume Microsoft will execute well as well.

What's wrong with using the best of whatever sevice is available? I use Yahoo for somethings, Google for others.

searching/conversions/getting answers= Google.
home page, cal., briefcase= Yahoo.

I have the google toolbar, and use it all the time. Yes I seach a lot, no one knows everything. It's also handy for conversions and calc.

I give a damn because I do SEO and manage PPC ads on Google for a living. We also do a lot on Yahoo. Most experts in the search engine field will tell you there's not that much difference between the quality of the results on either service these days; it'll certainly vary from search to search, but they're both relatively similar these days with Yahoo's new engine. People that still think there's this HUGE gap between Google and the rest of the competition are still living in 2001. Google's good, but it's not God.

IMO Teoma is currently the best major search engine out there, it just suffers from a much smaller index. Give it an index the size of Google's or Yahoo's and it would probably start to win people over like Google did in 99 and 2000.
