Poll: Giving the "Creator" a Grade

There has been a lot of religious discussion on the OT board lately. I am going to propose a question. I don't want this to turn into a big flame war. I don't want there to be a lot of bickering and "I'm right; you're wrong" talk. The question is simple:

IF you could judge your creator, what GRADE would you give his/her/its for its creating ability?

A - Superior work
B - Above average work
C - Average work
D - no so great work
F - we need a new creator

Before you automatically choose "A" b/c "I love God," think about the question for a second. Disease, famine, death, destruction, poverty, hatred, greed, war, envy, etc plague humans. The earth is constantly ravaged by floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados, volcanic eruptions, etc. It seems like the creator likes to destroy its creations quite often...

Even if you are an atheist, answer the question as an "if there is a God" scenario. Also, I am not attempting to anger religious folks. I would just like their opinion of the "works" of their god...

----------------------------------------------------------

IF there is a single creator, I would give it a grade of:

C-

Sure, there might be a lot of great things in this world, but there are far more bad things going around...

I would give it a C because of those reasons you mentioned and then some. Sometimes I wonder why we have cancer and that there is no cure.....

if you go straight by the bible, than all of the bad stuff in the world is our fault. then there's the "pandora's box" story...so on and so forth. i cant really judge the job that God is doing(going on my belifs as a christian, although a sceptical one) since the only creating He has done was in the beginning. He has basically left us up to our own devices. the bad things in life are either due to natural events(floods, fire, etc) or due to our errors. i'd give him a B+ because He did give us the means of managing various hardships through our intellect

At this stage in the game, I'd give him an A-. Humans now have the ability to do so many things on this earth. The fact that we still tolerate war, famine, greed, poverty, etc. is entirely our own fault.

I just heard

What if God Smoked Cannabis by Weird Al

and it cracked me up....

That's about all I have to say. I'm inclined to look past the bad and just laugh instead...

(Oh, and I agree with Netopia. Well said. :) )

I'd have to give a B+ grade. There is something to be said for what was done. However, the creator made the classic mad scientist mistake. By giving man the free will to choose his own destiny, the creator did what every B movie mad scientist did. He made a creation, but forgot to program into the creation the inability to turn on the creator. I guess we would be pretty boring automatons if we didn't have free will, but in order to get that A grade, you have to be much closer to perfection.

I have a hard enough time keeping my checkbook balanced and getting to work on time in the morning. Anybody that can run a universe has a leg up on me. ;)

If you don not believe in God then you can't "rate" him - b/c he doesn't exist, right?

If you DO believe in God, then there is no way I can see anyone:

A) Having the arrogance to "rate" God Himself - the supreme being that created all.

and/or

B) "Rating" the being that holds your very existance in His mind poorly.

Suddenly man is judge of God, huh?

Argh... how logically does this work... its either "There is no God, therefor I am rating that which doesn't exist" or "There is a God who created me and everything else at His own decision and I have the gall to "rate" him as if he were a motherboard company or a movie"...

Oh my... the sheer arrogance is astounding. Dedpuhl, I hope you truly were not looking to stir the pot with this thread but I'm afraid it is bound to!

BTW, the crappy stuff is our own fault. Netopia answered this far better and in fewer words than I.

D - not so great work

By populating the earth with mostly 'dumb' animals and by providing most Humans with not enough intelligence to understand their environment, it's an extremely bad job IMHO.

I think it's extremely arrogant to think that we could even begin to grade the work of our creator. We operate on an abstraction entirely too high to fully comprehend the level of complexity involved.

IMO we are never created equal, we all evolved into biological equals, therefore it is impossible for me to rate my creator so to speak!

But if one wants me to rate nature (it has given rise to all life forms on this planet), I only need one word to describe it - AWESOME

I agree with Netopia...good description...though I did, just because of the overwelming amount of @$$holes with their "D" rating, go arhead and gave Him an A :):(:|

I'm not going to give a grade, but I think the people who are giving "him/her/it" a C, D, whatever...maybe you should think about it this way. If you believe in one creator, then shouldn't you be pretty damned grateful? Don't look a gift-horse in the mouth, I guess. Or rather, don't look GOD in the mouth.

I have to agree with Optimus' and Netopia's posts.
If you are an agnostic, why bother rating that which is non-existent?
If you are a believer, how you have the arrogance to rate that which created you?

And according to the Bible and christian belief it is man's sin that has brought so much suffering in this world. God gave us the freedom to choose. Man chose to sin. Don't be so surprised by the consequences.

No flaming intended, just stating my humble opinion.:)

konichiwa:
You have a valid point, and to answer you, yes I am eternally grateful for my existence. However, constructive criticism never hurt anyone, especially the creator.

I don't know if I'd really call it constructive criticism. I never heard anyone say anything to the point of "Maybe you shouldn't have created Eve at all, that would've been better" or "Who needs the apple anyway?" ... just, as Elita said, arrogant "grades" of a power which you believe is higher than yourself.

Can God create a grade so high the not even he/she/it/they/whachamacallit can acheive it?
