POLL: Girlfriend better know how to cook?

I was talking about this with my parents and they both mentioned that, 'oh she's cute but she doesn't know how to cook".

At first I thought it was just old fashioned. But come to think of it, I really enjoy food...and have no cooking skills of my own. Wouldn't that down the road make me miserable?

So, would you marry someone if you didn't know how to cook? I know this is more of a guy question, but ladies you can vote too!

My girlfriend can't even make macaroni and cheese out of the box right. HEr roommate honest to god made kool aid with just the kool aid packet, no sugar, and didn't know why it wasn't right.

I can cook fairly well, better at working the grill/bbq. My future wife is gonna know before we tie the knot, even if I have to teach her.

I caught my last GF forking up a brand new teflon pan one morning. That was the last time I ever let her touch anything in my kitchen. She spent the rest of the morning sitting outside my apartment thinking about what she did :| :| :evil:

BTW, now that its the 21st century, AceMaMac highly recomends that a real man learn how to cook his favorite foods.

Here is what I KNOW I can cook:

Steak, Burgers, Hotdogs, Eggs, Omlettes, Fondu, Pasta and all manners of Crab and Fish. See anything missing from that list? Me neither.

they can learn, if they are willing to do it after they get married by necesity you can teach them. don't knock someone just because they don't know how to cook (yet)

example my friends mom did not know how to cook toast before she got married and when married my friend's dad taught her and now she cooks awesome stuff...also my cousin same thing happened. after marrige stuff can change.

true but that scenario is not guaranteed.

It's kinda hard to hold her accountable for not being able to cook if you also can't. That's old fashioned and hypocritical. Instead, use it as a way to get closer together. Take a cooking class together, trade off making dinner, things like that.

My brother in law's wife can't cook at all, and he's always stuck eating crap like TV dinners or fast food.

My wife, on the other hand, has shelves of cookbooks and countless hours of cooking shows saved on our PVR. Last night was sweet and sour chicken over rice, and the night before was homemade burritos. Plus she usually makes my lunch. If it wasn't for her, I'd be spending twice as much on food and be eating total garbage.

THat's what i'm worried about. I don't like fast food @ all.

Learning to cook is not hard. As long as one of us is willing to cook on any day, I'm ok with it.

If neither of us ever want to cook, that's a symptom of a deeper problem in the relationship. Call it the "I don't know, what do YOU want to do" disease.

OP: Looking at the poll results, I just realized that the majority of ATOTers have probably been waiting for years to get to second base. Therefore they're likely to marry the first (human) female to show anything more than mild interest in associating with them. So take the results with a grain of salt.

While I am a decent cook myself, and sometimes I actually enjoy it (as in, I like going outside and drinking beer while I play with my grill), however, I don't think I could ever marry someone that "couldn't" cook. I would be happy to share cooking responsibillies, but I'm not going to cook for some woman all the time. She will have to cook for me sometimes too.

i AM a cook, or sous chef i guess, and i enjoy it most of the time, so i wouldn't mind if she couldn't cook. Thats just one more thing i can impress her with.
