There are scientists and researchers who are focused on finding scientific explanations for mysterious phenomena. There are real Ghostbusters out there, and I hope they do find a way to explain the weirdness so many of us have experienced.
I had an experience earlier this month that I had dismissed as indigestion and imagination gone wild, but when I had some film developed today, there was an anomaly that many ghost chasers consider to be 'spirit energy'. I sent the picture on to a paranormal researcher friend of mine, and here a copy of part of the note I sent her:
Earlier this month, Alan and I went for a long weekend in St Augustine. I
made reservations at the St Francis Inn because it looked romantic and it
had been 4 years since we were away from the kids. It was also the weekend
of my 33rd birthday, so I was planning on having a very "Adult" time. The
last thing that was on my mind was ghosts.
Well, the last night we were there I decided to go on the walking Ghost Tour
for fun. Alan wasn't too thrilled with the idea, but I got my way 'cause it
was my birthday. After a big meal of things I shouldn't eat (I had a beer
and some bread, which is guaranteed to give me gas) we joined the tour
guide. It was a blast, really... not spooky at all. Well, we didn't
actually go into any of the haunted places, we just stood outside, so that
helped me feel 'safe'. I did take a couple of pictures of the graveyards,
just in case.
After the tour, we stopped for some ice-cream on our way back to the Inn.
At that point, I knew I had ensured a tummy ache! I went to bed worried
that I would not sleep well. I had a bad feeling that if anything was 'out'
there, I had gotten its attention. I have always felt that because ghosts
sense that I can sense them, they occasionally try to get my attention.
Contact freaks me out... I'm pretty comfortable with family spirits, but
strange ghosts make me nervous.
Anyway, I woke up at 2:46 AM. It had just started to rain softly and would
rain all the next day due to a cold front. I had gas pains so I went to the
bathroom and felt much better. I wanted to get back to sleep ASAP because
my experience has been that from 3AM to 4AM is a very good time for
hauntings. Just as I was drifting of to sleep, I felt a ~whoosh~ approach
the foot of the bed. Then I heard a melody... it sounded like a minuet. I
knew that there was a woman there who wanted to speak with me. I did not
want to see or speak to her, I'm too chicken!!! Anyway, I know it was not
sleep paralysis because I could move. I was laying on my side, sort of in a
spoon position with Alan. I started shaking Alan because I was not going
to deal with a ghost by myself. He was not waking up so I started to rock
my body back and forth frantically. I never opened my eyes. After a minute
or two (which seemed like an eternity) I felt the presence leave suddenly.
I relaxed, rolled over, and pulled the covers over my head.
I woke up and convinced myself that it was the beer, the bread, and the
ice-cream! I mean, after all, I know better than to eat those things,
especially in the same evening. My imagination was running wild with me,
right?
Fast forward to today. I had the pictures developed... 5 rolls in all,
because we also took the kids to the mountains last week. The graveyard
pictures had nothing. I didn't really expect anything. However, a picture
that I took the next morning surprised me. It was no longer raining, but
still misty. We were on the courtyard porch at the Inn, having coffee. I
wanted to take a picture of the courtyard because we are planning some
improvements in our own backyard. I had put ghosts out of my mind. Damned
if I didn't get the clearest globule I have ever seen in my life! I'd
really like to know what you think of it. If you like, I will send you a
copy.
Frankly, I would like to think that I am just a crazy, hallucinating wench. It would be a relief if that were the case! I keep telling myself that some really insane people are quite normal and well balanced, and I must be one of them.
Honestly, I am not really sure what to believe when in comes to spirit phenomena and I hope that science finds an answer in my lifetime.

I'd like those of you who are interested to take a look and then answer the poll.
Remember, I am not here to convince anyone of anything. This is not really a debate thread, although you are welcome and encouraged to post your thoughts! Frankly, I think this is a mystery none of us have the answer to, and as always I am curious.
