I've had the c320 and the i3. Get the c320. The address input method on the i3 SUCKS (it looks to be the same on the i5). The wheel is slow, and frustrating to use. C320 has touchscreen, lets you input addresses and navigate MUCH faster.

Oh, and the larger screen is nicer too.

Thank you. I'm glad I made the right choice. I cancelled my i5 order before it shipped. I'll either order the c320 or wait for a hot deal (around $299) and get the c320.

I would go with the C320.
I am a Gramin dealer, on the marine side, and my cost on the C320 is about $375 plus shipping.

Are these things as reliable as a built in GPS? I want to get one, but I am afraid that the company I buy one from will suddenly go out of business or something and I will be stuck with a dead POS...

Yes, unless I can find a Garmin i3 < $270 shipped.

I scored i3 at my local Target for $149.00 It was on clearance of course. Still don't know whether to ebay it or keep it.

No problem. I paid $350 for mine at Frys. $299 would be a great price on it.

OMG, a true car GPS solution Ross? What happened to Dell Axim
plus SD card
plus Bluetooth GPS
plus car mount
plus US Cities Maps DVD
plus car charger
plus squirming to see directions on a 3.5" screen
plus hearing voice directions over the 3cm speaker

FTW?

I finally realized a true automotive GPS solution is what I need. Yes it's not as uber geek as PDA + Bluetooth GPS receiver but sometimes you just want something simple that works.

AnyMal - I'll clear out some PM's and contact you :)

Having one of those would be cool, but frankly, I can't imagine what I'd use it for. Why are you getting one?

Garmin GPSMap 376C. I've been playing around with it. Probably overkill if you're strictly a landlubber but if you venture out to sea it's worthy. :)

To keep yourself from getting lost, duh :)

Trust me, it comes in handy.. I haven't had to look at a map or print out directions since I got mine.

I'd recommend upgrading the memory, though. I put 512 MB in my i3, and now I have all every state East of the Mississippi river in there. With 128 MB, you'll only have room for 4 or 5 states, tops.

I've owned several GPSs (Aviation, Auto, Trekking, Laptop) over the years and I think the only way I'd own another car one is if it was built into the vehicle or securely mounted. I've used portable ones in the car and I have also used my laptop in the seat next to me. They are pretty much worthless if I have to stop and putz around with them.

But that being said I'd consider it a complete waste most of the time I am in my home city. 95% of the time I leave my house I know where I am going. For the times that I am travelling outside of my city I do all of my preplanning on the computer ahead of time. Would life be easier with a GPS? On very rare occasions yes.

They make specific ones for sea and for land. Why would you recommend a sea on then mention it mgiht be overkill if he is using it for land? I think a Cessna might be overkill if you want to drive to the market.

Yes and you will NEED that conveyor belt since the (Cessna) won't go down the road without its wings and the prop is a hazard.

Well it works both ways. And CHEAPER ones that are for automotive only will suffice I suppose. After all the OP is cheap right? ;)

I gotta have both. Especially on islands I'm not familiar with my owners won't let me out of sight without some kind of reassurance. Taxi drivers are risky but we're getting off topic and into another (long) story.

My Garmin c320 arrived yesterday, woohoo!

I wonder what the cleanest/easiest method to mount it is?
