Poll: Gaming on console(s) or PC?

No room in this poll for 'they each have their place' - choose one or the other for your gaming preference.

If you could only game on one or the other for all time, which would it be? I gave no middle-ground poll option since the market seems to be headed toward console-only gaming.

The high-end PC hardware biz will resist this strongly.

Microsoft + Sony are a blue whale vs. the gnat that is the market for video cards.

but I'd pick a PC if I had to choose one, for strategy, RPGs, and FPS.

If all the major companies leave the PC game space, smaller companies will spring up to fill the void, probably using electronic distribution.

If Valve ever gets steam working properly and turns it into a distribution channel for other companies they could end up making piles of money even if they never finish another game themselves.

bah, its uttelry stupid that someone wouldnt want competition in a field such as videogames...i think both pc and consoles would suffer from lack of competition.

edit: also i hope you dont expect to take these results seriously as they are from a computer forum.

Without consoles there's still plenty of competition, and room for even more.

Actually I expected (still do expect) consoles to win, based on all the people here who seem to think a gaming PC costs $3k and you have to upgrade it every few months to play games. Further, choosing console(s) in this hypothetical scenario wouldn't prevent people from using their PCs, just from gaming on them.

I've never owned a console....I've spent as much on computers in the past two years as I did on my car ($2000). Take a guess as to what I voted for. 😛

There's more than that. Most people that buy high end CPUs and fast memory do it for gaming and not to run 3DS Max, at home at least.

I own a PS2 but only the kids play with it. I can't be bothered to play any games on it.

That's because Halo was a really crappy port, lol...It basically requires a 6800-series card (or X800 series) to run well, even though it's a 2001 game with mediocre graphics....

Ugh sounds like GTA 3

well yeah i guess if i HAD to choose one it'd be...

PC 🙁 but i still cant live without Nintendo games. xbox and ps2 can go to hell for all i care. but zelda, mario, etc. i NEED lol

They absolutely each have their own place. I couldn't live without Halo2, and I don't think it would work very well on the PC, but games like splinter cell are much better on PC, just due to the nature of the control.

i probably shouldnt have a say in this. never in my life have i owned a console. never wanted one. dont really know why, but i just dont like them.

Ok, so this a "if you were stuck on an island and could only choose one or the other" type question, right? Hmmm...

My first priority is to find some power on this damn island, but after that...I think I'm gonna have to pick...the PC. I LOVE my XBox and can't wait for XBox 360, but hey, I can play all my PC games and then I can just wait for the console emulators to start popping up. 🙂

But in reality, I'll have both. 😉
