Poll: Gamers, do you own a dvd drive?

its kinda getting unnecessary when you have to install 4 cds for a game, when you could have it all on 1 dvd. ???

I had a DVD-ROM as my primary, and CDRW as my seconday until the CD-ROM in my second PC crapped out. I just tranferred the DVD-ROM over and kept the CDRW here, since it's more practical in this system.

I'll qualify that under owning one.

I've had a DVD-ROM drive for a while now. It would actually be nice if games came on DVD's instead of half a dozen CD's.

the time it takes isnt that long
I think the point is that its tedious to switch out the disks... I don't mind if it takes 10 minutes, but having to sit through an install sucks...
But 4 cd's is still a huge improvement over installing a program that was written to 30-40 floppy disks 😀

I'll get a DVD-Drive eventually...when we start seeing S-ATA models and decent CD/DVD+R/W Speeds 😀

I have DVD-ROM and CD/RW but want to get an 8x DVD burner in the very near future.
Yes, I hate installing multiple game CDs as well.

Haven't figured out the need for a DVD-Rom yet so I haven't bought one. If software makers would utilize them maybe, but it will take a while.

Now a DVD-R is a different story. I would love to have one of them for storing data, but can't afford one yet.

I have a CDRW and a CD-ROM. I'm not really sure I understand the question about having it all on DVD because I have never used a DVD so I don't know how you're putting 4 game CDs on 1 DVD or what's beneficial about it.

I always install the games on the HDD and then just get a No-CD crack so I never have to use the game CD again unless I decide to re-install. I have 280 gigs of HDD space so I don't have to worry about running out of HDD. 😀

heh, no offense but you ENTIRELY missed teh point 😛

Most likely, I really don't know anything about DVD because I've never had an interest as of yet to find out. 😀

BTW, I'm guessing now that you can store a heck of a lot more on DVD than CD. But still, makes no difference becuase I don't know of any games that come on DVD and you'd still have to transfers all the CDs to DVD just to install off of DVD.

But I have tons of HDD so I don't have to uninstall games to get the space just to install another.

Only have a CD-Rom.

I have my Xbox as a DVD player, so I really have no need for a DVD-Rom. Though the next time I need to purchase a CD-RW or whatever, I'll be sure its a DVD Combo Drive.

No DVD drive on my machine. Never had a need for one. Have one at work, but that's just for my discounted MSDN DVD license.

I have a DVD player that is set up as my primary drive.
It gets a lot of use, I generally end up watching movies on my PC.

well, i dont think most people are using it just for that. i got mine becuase
1. my 5 year old cd drive broke and it was about time to get something new and faster
2. i didnt own a dvd player or tv at school so it would be good for movies
3. it was less than 50 dollars.

I've had one for 5 years. Where the hell is the software for it!

And I would much rather use one Disc rather then 4.
