Found $80 folded neatly under some boxes in our data room (I'm a network engineer). The data room is also where our help desk techs work. I immediatly began asking if anyone's lost any money (didn't say how much, and only asked the people who would have been in that area; the help desk personell, and the other techs), and this morning one of the lady's said exactly how much she lost yesterday, and where she thought she dropped it (it was about 10ft off from where she thought it was), so I gave her the money.

Got to thinking, that would make an interesting poll for you guys, and since I have nothing better to do with my time this evening here we go.

edit: note, even if I couldn't have figured out who's it was, I would have just bought pizza with it for the next IS meeting, (includes the helpdesk, software and tech groups) I don't remember the last time I found money, and just kept it for selfish reasons, I've always been like this.

None of the above. I'd tell those around me I found some money, but wouldn't tell them where and how much. If they lost it, they can tell me at least how much they lost.

You did the right thing. How would you feel if you lost 100 bones, and then someone had it but didn't confess up?

That is what I did. Nobody knew how much it was until the help desk lady answered correctly.
