I have SXGA+ but i hardly ever use it (the higher resolution)

I think all screens (XGA/SVGA+ are best at their native resolution)

I work on an old dell 610 with an xga. I don't know if its age is the factor, but the screen is pretty washed out. IMHO higher quality displays are worth it.

I voted I have a XGA but wished I had something higher. But the couple hundred in $$$ was a concern for me.

I have XGA and I think it's fine for what I do. 1024x768 is high enough for office work and web surfing, and not too high for games.

For those of you who don't know:

800x600 (SVGA)
1024x768 (XGA)
1280x1024 (SXGA)
1400x1050 (SXGA+)
1600x1200 (UXGA)
1600x1200 (UXGA+ : UXGA w/ brighter screen)

1366x768 (WXGA : Wide XGA)
1680x1050 (WSXGA+ : Wide SXGA+)
1920x1200 (WUXGA : Wide UXGA)

SXGA would probably be fine for me depending on the screen size.

I've got SXGA+ and I love it :)

I had the choice of P4 2Ghz with SXGA+ screen or 1.4 Centrino with XGA screen, the higher resolution screen won it by a mile.

I could not go back to having to use a lower resolution screen, it would be too horrible :)

I've been wondering this same question. I was thinking of going to Best Buy or one of those places and just snooping around their selections and decide for myself.(not purchase from them, just look)

yea, this is one of the deciding factors for my laptop purchases. that, and finding a complete system with 512MB RAM, 802.11b/g card, serial port, (firewire would've been nice) and winxp pro already installed so i don't have to worry about adding things later. i'm searching the refurbs and ebay for a d600.

that's by far the best way to go.
