I'm considering getting a IBM 80gig 120GXP. I'd appreciate some comments from 120gxp owners.

I've had one for a week, working fine so far. This thread will tell you nothing of value you know :)

I'm deciding between the 120GXP, Baracuda IV, or D740X. I want quiet and speed. Newegg is still out of stock on the 80gig 120GXP, so I still have time to think about this..

<< I dont have one and it's bad. >>

I have owned the 80GB 120GXP for a few months now, and it has been running 24/7 since then. The drive seems to run a few degrees C above my 60GXP, but it's nothing for me to be concerned with since there is an 80mm fan cooling it. ;) It's fast, very quiet during seek, and spits out some nice benchmarks as well. I have always been extremely happy with IBM HDD's.

HDTach 2.61 on the 80GB 120GXP

I believe it was LuNoTiCK. Just read his reply that doesn't make sense anyhow. ;)

hmm.. Which online store still has this drive in stock for a reasonable place (close to newegg.com price)? I tried qbitpc.com, which has it for $149. However, it wants to charge an additional $10 to verify and send it to my work place. :p

Wow, it's doing really well, I think that will be next hard drive upgrade for me. I might get 60GB version. Right now, I have 60GB 60GXP, but I need/want the extra speed more than the megabytes because I have a second back-up hard drive with 80GB that serves as my mp3 and movie storage.

It makes sense. He KNOWS someone who has it and it's bad. Because the poll says I, he has every right to say that he doesn't have one and it's bad :p

I received a 60GB 120GXP as a free replacement for my dead 75GXP. I also have a dual 60GB 60 GXP RAID striping array in my system. Though the 120GXP is fast, it is no match for the RAID array. When reformatting my array I ghosted my system to the 120GXP--boot times and program loading was noticably slower. I guess I didn't think there would be much of a difference, at least not a noticable difference, but there was.

Currently I just use the 120GXP as my backup device (as well as CD's and my roomates networked machine--yes I am a bit anal about backing things up).

The 120GXP's are fast and quiet, but if you are looking for speed at a reasonable price and have a good backup plan in place, then IDE RAID is the way to go.
