Really, how good do you think it will get. After watching the movie some friends of mine and I got into a discussion/argument about wether or not it will ever get to the point where we will not be able to tell the difference between a real life actor and a CG character. My friends say yes because no matter how difficult it may seem someone will care enough to make it happen. I say no because I don't think that any animator no matter how talented will ever be able to reproduce the subtleties(sp?) of human movement. They may get an anatomically correct walk but the won't ever get one that has the character and imperfections that all humans have developed in the way that they move. No matter what, I argue that it won't ever look completely natural. So what do you think? Am I dead on? Do I have my head up my a$$? Let me know either way.

I think CG movies will get so good that they will look better than real life... just a dream tho..

I think that animators will eventually create a visual product which the human eye won't be able to tell whether it's real or not, but the voice will always have to be from a human. I doubt the subtle intonations and quirks in human voices can be generated on the fly by a computer.

I still think they will continue to use actors and hook them up to machines that record their movements, which in turn will make the animation. This will make movement and facial expressions more realistic, which was the biggest trouble with FF. Actually, the facial expressions were pretty good, but movement, like walking and gesturing, was clearly the weakest part of it all.

I thought the movements were just a bit stiff but the hand and facial gestures were way above par. Especially the little movements that the old doctor man did when he was talking. And the kiss was very good. Looked kinda real. I do think think this movie will get bashed alot mostly because the "spirits of the earth" theme that often is in the FF games. Not to mention the ending was kinda anticlimatic, so people will sit there wondering if the movie is over. But for me, I really enjoyed it and my GF, who never has played any of the games, said it was good.

I don't think it's possible to ever animate real acting (i know, real acting, oxymoron). No matter how technologically advanced movie making can get...nothing will ever replace the acting done by many of our most talented actors, like Tom Hanks or somebody like him.

Even beyond the question of can they is why in the hell should they. If it can be done quicker and more convincingly with a human actor why try and make it digital. I am not saying that Final Fantasy shouldn't have been made, I think that all options should be explored to see what is possible, but leave human characters to humans and leave animation on a more fantasy cartoony level when it comes to humans.

Because the filmmakers have COMPLETE control in the digital world. There are no cameras, no lights, nothing. What they want is what they get, in only one take.

I thought FF's facial expression were poor. When Aki was "crying", I thought she was laughing at first, which made no sense during the scene. It's like she had major plastic surgery done and couldn't control her facial muscles anymore. The doctor looked the most realistic out of all the characters.
